Anyone have any experience reload 43 Mauser? I will be using a lighter projectile at 345gr and am looking for powder suggestions. I've heard IMR4198 or H4198 (no idea what the difference is) are good for use with heavier bullets.

On a second note I almost have all the components but I cant seem to find brass for it. Anyone know where I could find some in Canada?
43 Mauser (11.15x60mm)

Thanks

The only brass available is Bertram from Australia, in my opinion it’s garbage. You can make 43 Muaser brass out of 300 Win Mag but it is a bit of work.

Thanks for the reply. I know of Bertram, i just don't know where i can find some in Canada. I've talked to a few guys that have managed to make some from different calibers but personally I'm not a fan of the idea.

I have successfully made 43 Mauser from 300 win. It does take some effort and only works as a single shot since it does not have the rim (assuming your using a 71-84 repeater and not the single shot 71). If you want details I can post them. Some info on youtube regarding the conversion as well.

In my opinion, it was worth the effort as it allowed me to have an unlimited supply since I can pick up 300 win off the floor at the range.

As to loading, I found that the chambers were too tight for a 0.446" bullet to fit in the reformed cases with out neck turning. I eventually decided to load as the original rounds were using a paper patched, bore sized, soft lead projectile over black powder and it worked perfectly.

As of now I have not yet developed a smokeless load using a 0.446" cast bullet. Still experimenting with neck turning different brands of 300 win mag brass. Interesting note, Barnes 300 mag brass seems to work without any neck turning at all. I just can't find enough of them to start load development.

Hope this helps.

I have some brass left from before i moved onto the 43 express.

I like h4895 and imr3031 for loading the 43 mauser my self. I also just use 45-70 trapdoor laod data and work from there. Its a safe starting point.

I use older Bertram brass, before their quality went south. Works excellent. Too bad current stuff is not as good. I also use Dominion brass, but it needs the necks annealed first or they split. I use black powder only. Lyman 0.446 , 340 gr cast over 85 gr Goex 2f with a Federal 210M primer and a 0.030 card under the bullet. I have made cases from 45-70 and 90 with a thin piece of brass tubing about 1/2 inch long pushed onto the base and spun on the lathe for proper diameter. The case can’t be fully resized or the ring comes off in the die. Neck size only. I eventually found close to a hundred 43 cases so I am good for a while.

14.0 grs Trail Boss.

I purchased 3 boxes of new Bertram brass from Bullet Barns. You could also try Dennis at Shooters Den in Sudbury.

And, saving Dominion brass as I shoot them...

Google is your friend, loads of info on internet.

You can find Bertram Brass here, not cheap, but much better price than some of the dealers here:

Bertram brass will last forever.

IMR4198 is my favorite powder, and you can safely use 45-70 trapdoor data to reload it.
I use 29grs for a 387grs bullet.
You should be safe with 31grs.

I'm assuming that's an error???

I made some out of 45 70.i used two sided tape to keep it centerd fireformed removed tape and fire formed again there a little bit short but they work I use 29g trailboss
