Anyone have any experiences with these? Always liked the look of them, have a few 28's lined up and I'm having a hard time picking one. I've always liked the 1100s, looking at an older LW-28 in mint condition for a really good price, only draw back is the barrel is fixed skeet. I want to grouse hunt with this gun. Did some research and a lot of people use skeet chokes or IC in the 28 for birds. Still a little skeptical, but could always get a remchoke barrel if I could find one.

Also looking at the SA-08, see a used one for $800obo, seems like a decent deal, has the screw in chokes. But haven't really heard of any first hand experience with these. Any input?

I have both. Never fired a lot of rounds out of the SA and it worked fine but would sell it before I sell my 1100 28ga. It just fits and feels better . Better made also IMO but I am a 1100 man. That being said the SA is one of the better made guns from Turkey

Skeet works fine here for birds but we shoot them close under 25 yards. I am not sure how long your shots will be
I know it is more money but finding another fixed choke barrel for the 1100 is not impossible either
I picked up a mod and a full off the EE for mine
You can also have tubes fitted but it will have to go state side and briley do it. I have had one barrel done but it was years ago and over 300 bucks. Not sure what it is now but Lawry's will know
If you are going to pay 800 for a used SA how much more is a 28ga 1100 sporting. They have the tubes. Have you tried a WTB listing in the EE
Cheers

I didn’t realize the SA-08 came in 28 gauge. I’ve shot a 20 gauge and found pleasant. Fit and finish seemed decent for the value. I think CZ may have some offerings in 28g as well.

I know a fellow who uses a 28 gauge Weatherby self loader.never heard him have any complaints or problems with the gun .For myself I prefer the 28 gauge Franchi 48AL self loader.

In the past I used a 28 gauge Remington Model 11-48 with a skeet choke barrel. It worked really will with Remington Express 7 1/2 shot loads. With the more open chokes ,I find the smaller 7 1/2 shot help to sweeten the pattern over the number 6,which I prefer to use in my modified or full choke 28 gauge guns.

Is the 48AL still being made . Agree on the 7 1/2 in the skeet choke for upland
Cheers

Thanks for the replies fellas. I am definitely leaning more towards the 1100. If I do get it, I will post an ad up in EE to look for a barrel. Gotta unload my .280 first, hopefully the guy that is looking at it this weekend takes it.

Had not realized that production had been stopped on the Franchi 48AL self loader.Too bad ,they are great upland guns.Had two in 28 gauge at one time. One with choke tubes and the other with out.Sold the one with out choke tubes quite sometime ago.Still have the choke tube one. Both guns were made in Italy.

I am guessing just too much competition from 28 gauge Beretta and Benelli self loading shotguns, caused their being discontinued .

What year was production moved to Spain?

Don't know other than I looked at one of those and would have had to sell the house to get one :( Like over 3 grand with taxes

I have had a couple dozen Franchi 48’s over the years. Still have a handful of them. Up until last year, I had two newer 28 gauge. Both were the deluxe model with outstanding wood. Still have one of them which was made in Italy in 2000. The other one I sold last year and it was made in Spain in 2009. Not sure when BBI started making them, but definitely as early as 2009. The Spanish ones weren't as well refined as the Italian made guns. My 20g made in 1967 is identical as the one made in 2000. The 2009 was slightly different in that the triggers assemblies and rear stocks weren't interchangeable.

A friend of mine has one it works well and he shoots it well finish is great I just am not a fan of Turkish guns buts that me . On a side note the skeet chokes in my Superposed mike out at light modified my 870 and 1100 are a little more open but I make up for it with 7/8 oz #8 loads in the Remingtons. IMHO if you can get a 1100 jump on it.

The Rem's with fixed skeet choke are ideal for woodcock and cottontail. Would do well on grouse far north but would not be my choice for sketchy southern grouse.
Keep an eye out for an 870 Wingmaster in 28ga, real nice guns.

Thanks for all the input guys!

Just acquired a Remington 1100 Sporting 28! It has the remchoke system. The wood is absolutely gorgeous!! Glad I waited, always wanted a Sporting 28, like finding a needle in a haystack! Gonna be a long few days waiting for it to arrive in the mail.

Congrats. They are a beautiful gun. I have had zero issues with mine and if I had to be picky and find a fault is the dam thing tosses my priceless hulls :) 1/2 a mile it seems LOL
Take care
