Will there be a Component shortage?

The economy is tanking now and most likely will keep getting worse for the immediate future. No one knows what is ahead of us. Since reloading components are mostly imported, is anyone stocking up, is there any hoarding going on yet? I just looked at my projectile stock in comparison to powder, and I need a lot more powder to load what I have now.

It will be like when Obama first got elected the Americans will buy everything up. Canadians too the sports guy at Canadian tire a couple days ago told me people were buying up the ammunition. Last time it took forever to catch up

People at a distributor I know told me yesterday that they will be out of factory ammo within 2 weeks and that components are getting harder to get. Also prices are about to increase.

I'm good on just about everything. I could use some more 55gr FMJ bullets, but I'm not totally out. Have about five or six hundred pounds of casting lead, so I've got a few 9mm and .38's worth.

Auggie D.

I would say that there is a good chance components will be gobbled-up. I heard the Cabelas in Calgary was quite busy today, packed! You will never find me in around people, let alone Calgary. Personally, I would suggest to stock-up on supplies.

I was well stocked thirty years ago and have added to my stock more than I've used. I will, however, share with my shooter buddies. Since I started reloading in about 1970, I've always kept a good supply of components, ammo, guns, and books to keep me occupied. I don't say this to show how smart I am, I post this because I am simply telling it like it is. Instead of buying $100 worth of liquor, I bought $100 worth of ammo or components.

I did the same my friend. I am good for my lifetime or 20 years if need be
When I was younger the old guys at the club told me to stash what I could while young since when I retired money would not be a free as it was when working
and it would be hard to maintain shooting volumes
Every year for many years when I did my yearly club order I added like 5 extra bags of lead, extra primers etc
That is how I got my stash
Cheers

I've always had much more firearms/ammo/components on hand than I actually needed. No worries here. Is it still hoarding if I did it years ago and just keep doing it as a habit? The nice part is when prices get stupid and availability nil, it's actually made my silly habit a bonus.

You can already see prices going way up. I've seen retailers mark up powder they were selling last month for $40ish per lb. now mark it up to $60.

Hey brother, can I be a shooter buddy?

Haha, just kidding.

I’ve been doing the same but for only the last 15 years.
