Hey guys,

I just bought a Remington 870 12 guage...with the top-folding law enforcement stock, and have been having a lot of problems with it so far...

first: the stock when folded over top of the barrel...has about a centimeter of room to bounce around which is incredible annoying, and with the spring loaded buttplate, scratches the bluing off the barrel

second: the butt plate itself will only stay properly shouldered (when unfolded) for one shot...at which point the recoil causes the buttplate to extend past 90 degrees, and fold underneath the stock...leaving no surface area to protect my shoulder from the recoil.

third: the butt plate itself has no padding, giving some pretty ridiculous bruising on my shoulder after 5 rounds or more...any thoughts of where to get a pad that would fit the LE stock?

Any hints, tips, tricks, or extra things id need to by to make this work better would be greatly appreciated

Those are many of the reasons no one buys that system anymore.
Its a 1960,70,s style police shotgun, many, many better systems on the market today.

If you're being bruised, you may not be holding the gun properly, or your stance is not quite there. Maybe your shouldering technique with this type of buttstock needs experimenting.

You have to remember that these top folders were designed as a compact workhorse with little to no attention given to comfort. Most agencies using such stocked gauges wear lots of gear to make up the padding... and if you had to save your bacon with your gauge, you wouldn't feel any recoil.

The REM top folders certainly aren't for everyone. I like them. They work well how I use them. I like folding my 18" to fit into a duffle bag and the grip fits my mits just right.

You could try the new R3 Recoil pads that REM sells with conventional buttstocks and send your top folder to me. I'll find a good home for it.

Regards.

I have that stock on my work gun and it is all the things you describe. They just aren't a good shooting stock. If you want similar functionality but with a bit more forgiveness then I recommend a Knoxx COP stock. That and all the folders feel better when you're wearing armor.
