Will there be a Component shortage?

I'm in good shape. 10 year supply of powder, primers and brass. Possibly could use some jacketed bullets in couple calibers and wish i had a bit more 5.56 ammo but i have 3000 lbs lead on hand so I'll make do.

Learned my lesson during the obama years.

I just got an email from Hornady last night. They say they are aware a lot of their products are in very short supply or unavailable. But are assuring us that they are at 100% production and intend to stay at 100%. We will see how it goes...

Probobly wise to stock up right away on what you need. Normally I would need a lot of components. But with how things are I will not be shooting at my ranges because they are already closed. And competitions will be on hold.

500 rounds would not last me long at all normally. But currenty 500 rounds is like a lifetime supply. So just pick up what you need, no reason to spend insane amounts of $.

I agree, going to the range will be less frequent for me.

I have no shortage of target projectiles or powder or primers. But I did stock up on Nosler Partitions a few weeks ago. In this state of affairs pretty much any shooting I see myself doing is to harvest food

For sure the Americans have been eating it up fast! Even factory ammo is flying off the shelves in Canada. Not exactly a serious shortage yet. But I was looking at some retailers online stores a couple days ago and I'm kind of blown away by how much is out of stock.

I think they will be forced to close real soon the way this is spreading in the US not essential manufacturing for sure in these times
Cheers

I'm good for a number of years to come component wise. A bit low on 22lr though but that is compensated by 1000+ pounds of lead and a bunch of moulds :)

Almost for sure you are right about that. It's pretty wishful thinking to keep running at 100% if at all very soon.

Maybe not. Gun stores in Illinois were declared an essential service and exempt from shutdown by Democrat governor....Seems entirely possible a Republican governor in Nebraska would give Hornady a similar designation in the event of shutdown.

I was well stocked thirty years ago and have added to my stock more than I've used. I will, however, share with my shooter buddies. Since I started reloading in about 1970, I've always kept a good supply of components, ammo, guns, and books to keep me occupied. I don't say this to show how smart I am, I post this because I am simply telling it like it is. Instead of buying $100 worth of liquor, I bought $100 worth of ammo or components.

A very wise idea , I do the same .

In looking around, the one thing I am in short supply of is some plain Jane .30 calibre projectiles...things like 165gr Interlocks; the bulk of which I use for general shooting. I had so many over the years, and was loading for numerous rifles that I guess I depleted them without realizing it.

I found myself in the same sort of situation awhile back.I was concentrating on building up a decent stash of non 30 cal. bullets and then realised that I was in fact shortchanging myself on bullets for my 308,30-06 and 30-30 rifles.I have since rectified that situation somewhat.

We're probably 2-3 months away from the peak of the "situation"... and will probably take at least a year for things to get back to normal (whatever that new normal will be).
- If you're not already stock-up, it might be a little late to do so.

For the last few years, airguns have been my fancy... I'm glad a ordered a few sleeves recently.
