If this ban continues I expect outfitters might take a huge hit . I wonder how this will affect them, possibly see discounted hunts offered to more local residents or a complete shut down this year... I guess depending on how this goes

I believe for the most part, from what I hear from hunters, Alberta outfitters are disliked for many reasons; bad for outfitters, great for Alberta resident hunters. I'm optimistic that this Covid-19 will be tamed down to a dull roar by September, pending on cityiots.

What makes a Guide/Outfitter any different that any other small business that is now being affected by COVI-19 right now?
I doubt there will be many sales of anything once this pandemic has run its course regardless if we escape unscathed or hit hard .
Business will be back to getting things sorted out logistically and await customers to do what customers do.
Follow the facts and not the fear.

My thoughts are along those lines too.

More people will suffer than profit, by the time this flu is over.

Look at all the freebees the gov't is handing out.

And most of us should know who pays for this.

Outfitters will definitely suffer, but so are most other industries. One thing that most outfitters have going for them is remoteness and few people... but the problem is that people have to travel to get there and travel is rightly being restricted.

Any business that relies heavily on tourists, is going to take a hit. Companies that cater to locals as well, may fare better. Companies that are seasonal operators, will likely just not operate to weather the storm.

it will affect all business not only them. i do wish the best for you as well.

Add fishing charter boats to this, cancel or the next person catching the virus could be you or your family

I’d hire an outfitter for a reasonable price to hunt to support the market but since they cater to rich Americans their prices are absolutely insane.

I imagine its going to take down all business a notch. We have a mechanic shop in edm and it's been down 80% since everyone is inside and avoiding the public in general. Going to be a rough run. We were already down due to oil tanking pre covid. Now oil has gone further into the pits and folks are out of work, with no expendable income to fix their vehicles. Not even sure how I'm going to survive the month. Guides might get away a bit easier if they can adapt to previously different markets, like local hunters but I fear they'll need to adjust prices down as the US market may not want to play as much. Maybe the US exchange rate will help them out. US hunters could come here for a song right now.

Almost EVERY business is taking a hit. My business relies on tourists and I am in the mecca of tourism in BC, but we are shut down for now. Not only is it unsafe because we have to be in close proximity of people, there just isn't any tourists left, they have all gone home.

Tourism businesses are getting pounded but so are most others. Except maybe the TP companies :)

Yep every one is taking a hit. Was working at a heliski lodge a couple weeks ago then this all hit . Most of the clients are from the US or Europe. As soon as it hit Europe the lodge closed it doors because the last month of bookings were all Europe clients. Cut the season short by a month.

The people who monitor these things are worried there will be a lull during the hot months of summer, then the virus will be back with a vengeance in the fall, much like the pattern of the Spanish flu of 1918.

I viewed a few documentaries on the Spanish flu, it killed 50,000 Canadians. Health experts mentioned that the flu will arrive with a second wave; with snow birds and others (tens of thousands) returning back to Canada, it will only become worse.

Same here our island of cape breton needs tourists and is screwed this year. My wife runs a four month small greenhouse business ( thank god she never quit her other job ) and in the last week we have cut, moved, cancelled anything we could but even then we are going to take a 20K hit min just from the stock on the way which I know is small to most but huge to us. Only hope we have is something may change by the end of june since our stock is alive and dies :(
All the best

Depending what sort of stuff raised in the greenhouse, might be a big demand for fruit trees, berry bushes, etc., this spring. Not for flowers, etc., though ...
