I hate re-assembling my 1911!!!!!!!

This is why I clean my 1911 less than my GLOCK 17!

I can dis-assemble my 2000 era NP-29, no problem.

It is during re-assembly that getting the slide release to go through the frame all the way that drives me crazy!

I can field strip, clean and re-assemble my G17 in 5 minutes.

I HATE 1911s.

Obsolete guns are obsolete.

If you can"t get the pin in you are not holding it right, I have done it with the spring still in tension in the slide, that , you have a bit more of a chance of thing not lining up.

Maybe a bit of chamfering and de-tuning of any sharp edges involved will ease your pain.... A bit of lube often helps with penetration difficulties as well.... :)

Ooh hoho. I see what you did there

As a first time 1911 owner. I had heard of the infamous “idiot scratch”. Didn’t know what it was... until I re-assembled...DOH!!! Yep. That’s where the idiot scratch goes.

Once you've cleaned a 1911 bunchteen times and have a sense for holding it at the right angle and the slide at the right point that the barrel link dangles in line with the hole, the slide lock pin goes right in no problem. But until you're used to that, getting it to line up really is the awkwardest thing.

Found the 1911 hard to disassemble/reassemble when I first got it, but like anything else, do it a few times and it’s easy peasy, don’t even use the plastic piece to prevent idiot scratch any more. Initially I was paranoid about scratching my expensive 1911, but no issue anymore.

Iam the same way no matter how many videos I watch, it's a very annoying task, I have sold everyone except for my colt rail gun, 1911s are a pain in the A$$ to take down and re assemble

This sounds absurd to me. But then I can take the thing apart and put it back together again, one handed, without using the table . . . but then I also have been playing guitar since I was 12.

It does seem like finger dexterity might be a factor.... started playing at 18.... :)

I just don't understand that?, the rugers can be finicky, some times take a couple of times to get it right.
I showed a fellow one time at the range, and after a couple of minutes , he had it down pat. And I don't even shoot Ruger's.
If you want a challenge strip a HK P7 all the way down., but you can take the slide off in 2 seconds.

I was getting frustrated with it so I diassembled, cleaned and re-assembled my G17 in 4 minutes.

The 1911 is going back in the safe in pieces.

I think it's a brilliant design that's why it's still around. Durable, easy to maintain for a military armourer in the midst of a war, Need no tools to disassemble right down to the frame, just brilliant. Only take 2-3 minutes to reassemble.

Forty years ago an old guy taught me how to pop the slide stop in using two hands and never get a scratch and I never have. No roll pins, no weird springs flying around, no plastic, a complete strip takes about 2 minutes longer than a field strip. I shoot 4 1911's about 10K rounds a year, I take them apart just for fun. I just don't understand all the agony.

I will try and find a youtube video on how to install the slide stop two handed or I'll use the quarantine to make one.
