How long till we see wide spread Sustenance hunting ?

One of the first things to go in a societal collapse is wildlife. Anyone banking on subsistence hunting is going to be hungry quick.

its going to have to be a combination of subsistence hunting and growing your own food, the next problem I see is securing your backyard food, unless you have fencing big enough to hide what you're growing.
Here in Saskatoon we have a major rabbit population which I think could turn into a major meat source lol

So what you're saying is, I bought assless chaps for nothing?

If you had bought chaps with an ass to them wouldn't they just be crotchless pants?

It is calving season and rustling hasn't gone away in last 100 years. I suspect a little more activity from criminals will occur this year due to a lack of revenue from alternative sources. However as others have said we are a long way from widespreads lawless desperation. Our supply chains while no longer as local are way more effective than in WWII. I'd recommend anyone who needs to look into the various debt deferral programs being offered if they need to be able to put money towards food. This is a valuable opportunity for everyone to come together(while staying 2 meters apart) and learn a few lessons about your debt load. Plant a garden, raise your own chickens, buy local as much as possible and take care of your neighbors (friends/family) there is no reason to be eying the neighbors dog and if you know anyone who is please try and get them some help with their mental health.

Have you noticed the society we live among?

You think that these pinko's are going to leave the city and their smart phones to go and "hunt"???

if you think precautions has been taken wait a few weeks and see how the evolution will be.

i spoke with my mom and trust me France did try ... if you think Canada is more clever you will unfortunetaly get and see the bad coming.

We don't quite have the same population density, a tad scant compared to them I'm thinking...might be easier to keep it to a dull roar. As far as 'more clever' that is almost the smack-down...Canadians do tend to be pretty cautious as a nation.
Remember the melt down in 2008...the one that really didn't effect us, certainly not to the amount that it did South of the 49th.
But to each their own.
As far as Sustenance Hunting? I'm of the opinion your average guy would have a clue other than youtube as to where to even start...

97.8% of the population in Japan is ethnically Japanese. It’s not really surprising that they banded together in a time of crisis . They have a shared background , history and culture. The same cannot be said for Canada.

"Diversity is Strength" - Rex Murphy himself said not long ago in writing, that the exact opposite of that statement is true. What brings strength is unity. What is required to achieve unity? Equality. Funny we never, ever hear about equality being pushed by the LPC or their mouthpiece CBC.

Truly, this country has been divided over and over by the left. Our country is not unified, it is weak.

Poaching is already widespread. Why do you think our game numbers have been low for many years.

yeah, because it has nothing to do with a hard winter or just the normal population cycles that have been going on since the beginning of time.

tell me about density of big centers we have and compare it with europe .... we have the 2nd largest country in the world on landmass but where most of the population are ...?

i was not born here nor educate here but on that pandemy sorry to tell you with all the lessons and experiences we received from other countries we are not very cautious. it is just the beginning im sorry to say.

We tend to forget, most of our country is basically uninhabitable. Over 90 % of the population still lives within 200 miles of the US border.

Grizz

When times get tough, there tends to be a significant rise in mortality among beef on community pasture, around here. :)

Grizz

Iirc a few years back one of the local ranchers was loosing cattle periodically, they were finding them with their quarters cut off. Basically somebody was just taking the tasty bits and leaving the rest.

Even he and Remi hated the taste BUT step 1 after you gut it is to burn the hair off, grab lots of BBQ sauce and eat some dewormer. lol

Burn the hair off? I think you meant to say “skin”. Jesus the thought of eating coyote meat is bad enough without you conjuring up the image of eating it’s crispy skin!

When society collapses so do the systems that keep the populations where they are. What do you think happens to the whitetail population when all regulations go out the window and the agricultural industry grinds to a halt?

Of course I suppose one benefit is that we'll find out pretty quickly whether or not CWD effects human.

Got a call yesturday from someone who got a roadkill deer. If I didnt have 70lbs in my freezer already I would of went halves on it. He got it, hanging in the shop now since it's still cold.

I'm absolutely amazed at hearing about people who live in the city that dont grocery shop. They literally eat out every single meal. I didnt know people live like that LOL

My response was based on current conditions. All of that is out the window if society collapses....

Bear season opens April 1. Hopefully my 6.5x54 M-S ammo arrives in time.

If it's not raining I'll be hunting with this old beauty.
