Mini 14 223 lovers

I fired my mini 14 target for the first time today. This rifle is showing promise for great accuracy. I printed a 10 round 2.25 moa group in a cold wind (my best group) my other ten round group was 4", 7 of which went into 2.25".
The only downside is that it likes to sling the brass in to next week. But I found a pile that someone left behind so its all good.

That Target model will almost certainly do much better than that, after you play around with loads and also with the harmonic dampener gizmo. I've owned one and had a chance to play with a couple others, they are definitely shooters.

And, yeah...that brass do fly! :)

I had to warn a guy that it sends brass flying so he moved over and it still nearly hit him. Yesterday I ordered a gas bushing set so I can fix that. I'm looking forward to playing with the tuner. It was to cold to try it that day.
My 2.25 moa group was with CamPro bullets so id say I'm off to a good start.

Run it wet just like the M14. If you want after market accessories be tasteful about it, there's a lot of crappy stocks (Archangel and Tapco garbage) and etc for the Mini-14 that will ruin its form and function.

Thanks. I got it with 2 stocks. The original wood laminate and an ATI stock. I like the wood one but the length of pull is wrong and I have to crane my neck forward to get my eye relief correct. Right now I have the ATI stock installed for that reason. The but stock is adjustable.

Did you have all the spacers removed from the wood stock and it was still too long?

If you get a chance, take a look at the Hogue stock for the Mini...super comfortable, much lighter than the wood Target stock.

I was able to pick one up for. Steal but haven't had a chance to shoot it due to corona fears coming the club.

Any major things to know?

I'm a die hard fan of the garand-carbine style actions and collect them so it had to be in my collection regardless

I looked at the Hogue stock online. It looks nice but I noticed that the length of pull is the same as the factory stock at 13 5/8 inches. I have my ATI stock LOP set at 11.5 inches. Are some of you guys using non factory scope mounts? I have my scope set all the way back in the factory rings and its still to far forward.

The latest production of Mini14's have receiver tops drilled/tapped and a pic rail included to attach to those holes. Then you can use any rings you want to get much more flexible scope mounting. Burris also makes (made?) a pair of short pic rails that each incorporate a Ruger clamp on the bottom, giving you 2 or 3 rail slots over each clamping position. Finally, a couple companies make one-piece rails that clamp to the Ruger dovetails the same way (although I never had particularly good experiences with those).

I tried all these methods for the opposite reason to yours, i.e. I have stupidly long arms and neck and wanted my scope further forward rather than further back. Same difference, though; all these options are much more flexible than the fixed-position Ruger rings.

Who in Canada is selling stuff like mini 14 trigger springs, bushing kits, adjustable gas blocks, etc?

I may have to check into that though it will have to wait until I have steady work again. COVID has drastically slowed down my work. I had to sign up for ei.

Why have your experiences with the one piece rails been sub par? What's wrong with them?

Hi,
I have an opportunity to buy a mini 14 in the 196 series. I’ve done a bit of research but you guys seem way more knowledgeable than me on this.... I read they have thin barrels and terrible accuracy. I’m not in a huge rush to buy, I can wait for a 58x if it’s worth the wait. Opinions?
Thanks
