Rimfire in the Backyard?

Speaking of "safe" distances, does anyone know where I could find the safe distance for various calibers ? One of the nearby towns doesn't have any no-discharge bylaws, I have a place I can go shoot but I want to make sure I keep it all in a safe direction ;).

Do those licenses help if you are doing your "hunting" in a place where bylaws prohibit the discharge of firearms within city limits?

Just asking.

Not at all.

If this were the case i'd be in the ravine behind my house in scarborough here shooting some of those those 900 deer we have in it.:50cal:

No discharge means just that.

How does this "Flobert" work in a magazine?

Very good question! I forgot to mention - you can only put one in at a time,
:( I know, I know, its not the greatest, but they are fairly quiet though - basically you are reverting to a single-shot. haha, its not my personal favourite either, but they work well though for what it is.

Actually, what I wanted to say was it seems like only yesterday I spent many happy hours out behind the barn with my brother and an old 22 shooting cans propped up in front of a sandpile in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia. Problem is it could have been 20 years ago the way my memory works these days. If the law had already been passed that would make us criminals we didn't know about it.

The main thing is nobody complained. I was told a while later, essentially "if nobody complains it ain't against the law" when I called the Halifax Police Department about riding dirt bikes on unused city property. I was looking for a second opinion after I called city hall and listened to some b**ch tell me "I wouldn't do it if I were you. Bikes are nasty. If isn't against the law it should be." If you ask permission "They" will say no, not because they understand the law or even what you're talking about, but because they can, and to cover their ample butts if things go sideways.

I've lived my life according to the motto "Do what you feel and don't get caught" and would recommend it to others. Just think 2 or 3 times about what you feel like doing :)

Meaning whether you're committing a crime or misdemeanor against some newly minted law or just having fun there's always somebody somewhere who wants to make you pay. Avoid 'em......life is tooooooo short.

BTW........Libs will eventually outlaw anything besides turtleneck sweaters, Boxer convertibles and white wine, so it enjoy it while it lasts.

Why are some of you talking about noise bylaws?

If your local bylaw states no discharge of firearms within the Village/Town/City..etc, then you are SOL even with a quiet load.

Interesting video Calum....just noticed it.

I have British friends who envy our Canadian freedoms :-/

Having lived in Germany, toured Dachau and visited Hitler's Eagle's nest in the late 60's, and lived in England in the mid-80's I realize there is no comparison between the image of millions of guns being crushed and the image of burying of millions of bodies, but the effect is the same. There is injustice afoot.

Especially given the 3rd Reich's view of guns in the hands of the population/ Even when we learn from history, we seem to learn the wrong things. Any doubt those students in the back row years ago who used to wet themselves are now highly placed in politics?

I've lived in Britain and have some small understanding of the antigun lobby there. This was a place (like Newfoundland) where the police historically did not carry guns but youth culture was already out of Clockwork Orange.

A nation with some of the greatest geniuses and none lately (rumour has it, a generation lost to lead poisoning from bad plumbing).

They function like a species lacking several senses (if you've ever tasted the food or tried to do business).

Hope we don't go there.

If you have already had the police come out and tell you to keep going with a shot gun than blast away with the .22, bug the hell out of your neighbors.. the more people who get use to it the better..
I just came from cabela's where my 4 and 7 year old girls were having a blast shooting in their shooting gallery.. Now we have to rush home so they can set up some balloons to shoot. They are just using pellet and bb's at home.. but next year we will try the 7 year old with a .22

x2, we hunt and shoot on a property not too far from where you described and we have never had a complaint (shooting a lot louder guns than 22lr). If the OPP checked you and said to carry on with 12 ga's, then anything else will be fine as long as you have a good backstop.

I hunt a property that borders the west side of Luther and I target shoot just north of Colebeck so don't sweat it just don't aim my way.

I went plinking in a regional forest with my buddy; we used .22 subsonic, loud enough, in 20 min a concern citizen show up asking what is going on. Is someone knows a good area near Toronto where plinking will end with out presence of OPP or concern citizens? (Well besides the shooting range obviously). Thanks

i grew up on rr4 in westluther, moved to guelph then kitchener over the last 4 years, havent been back since jamie culps funiral, he was my nabour we useto shoot a lot and we never saw a cop.
thats one of the biggest this i miss is the freedom that the country gives you, if your board shoot some rounds, just pick up the shells off the grass so that you dont hit them with the lawn mower.

in my experience the .22 flobert (weve always called them acorns) are louder and much less effective than CCI CB Longs.
theyre also dirty as hell and less accurate.
i have a pneumatic air pistol that is much, much louder than CCI CBs.

the 400 yard rule mentioned earlier... does that apply to your own house/structures too? or just 400 yards from any neighbor's dwelling? 400 yards from ANY dwelling is pretty brutal, that would require you to own over a hundred acres in some cases, lol.

as for discharge laws, who would you call to check local bylaws and verify this for every township?
