I’ve made a couple orders and was never charged anything extra, but that was a couple years ago. I have gotten dinged ordering directly from Bladetech though.
So long as it’s sent via US Postal Service you won’t get dinged for anything out of the oridinary. Sent via USPS it transfers to Canada Post at the border, and for a variety of items I’m getting charged the applicable duty rate, GST/PST and a $5 handling fee. Occasionally I have parcels from Brownells with no extra charges at all.
BUT** if it sent vis UPS or Fed Ex they charge all that plus completely arbitrary ( IMHO ) “ brokerage fees” which on one occasion we’re more than the item itself. For US domestic shipping both UPS and Fed Ex are dirt cheap, but I won’t buy anything shipped internationally by them.
One consideration with fed ex or UPS, if you have then option to do so, is to clear customs yourself.
One consideration with fed ex or UPS, if you have then option to do so, is to clear customs yourself. As long as you have access to a CBSA office that can do it (call and ask them first) you just need the waybill, the original purchase receipt and a little bit of time to go down there and all you end up paying is the taxes and duty if applicable.
Alternatively, if fed ex just drops the package on your doorstep (like the always do) and then sends you a bill 3 weeks later, call them and dispute it. Technically, they are supposed to give you the option to self clear. The second time Fedex stuck me with a bill of 85.00 in brokerage fees, I simply told them that I never agreed to their brokerage services and was not given the option to self clear customs before it was delivered so all I had to do was go to the CBSA office, pay the taxes and then send Fedex a copy of the form stating taxes were paid. Simple as that.
FedEx has tried to cheat me numerous times, so I enjoy spreading the word just to send them a middle finger.
And for what it’s worth, Blue Force Gear has always shipped USPS/Canada Post every time I’ve ordered from them and that’s about 3-4 orders over the past 2-3 years.
Not what I was expecting from this thread

From Blue force gear, does this mean I am screwed?: "At this time, we send through the USPS and into Canada where it may convert to another carrier such as Canada Post.# Please note in order to offer Canadian shipping, Blue Force Gear has the ability to quote the shipping cost only.#"

Lots of good solid info here.
And all of it is true about scams being run by UPS and Fedex.
They will charge you with a completely invented "brokerage" fee of whatever amount they feel like.
It's a complete and utter scam. Don't ever order anything cross-border that ships UPS or FedEx.
