This isnt a rant or about anything in perticular, just something I noticed.

I tend to go hot and cold with my firearms. Seems every couple years I get back in to them and buy another one or two and shoot them a lot, which also means I come on here and check out used guns.

My first purchase on here in 2010 was a near pristine 91/30 that went on the high side I guess for $195 shipped. Now they are going for upwards of $400 it seems. My SKS back in the same period was under $200 for a russian with a chrome lined barrel, seems price has also gone up pretty good on these.

Maybe its because I dont watch the prices all the time so I notice it more. Anyway, just on observation from me.

In Coronavirus time with a Fearmongering well orchestrated Media , semi-auto rifles Red and AR platform will sell better. Regular military bolt action not. In the last year generally speaking ,milsurp go up at least 10% in price.

I'm more familiar with Enfield prices. Regarding No4's.....the prices seemed to have peeked while times were good in Alberta due to lots of money in the oil/gas industry. Since then, largely because the electorate decided the best we could come up with was a drama teacher to lead our country forward, Trudeau's complete lack of leadership in getting pipelines built helped the demise of the Alberta economy......sorry for the rant but truthfully that led to a downturn of prices.
A lot of Enfields for sale found new homes in Alberta. The money was there and so was the demand. If a No4 Long Branch had a matching bolt......the price would start at a minimum of $800.....I was shocked at what people were paying.
Anyhow after Covid runs its course hopefully Canadians will smartened up a bit and hit re-set.....because under the current gov't we were headed for moral and financial bankruptcy.

The price increase on Milsurps started well before Covid19. People have a tendency to over value their stuff and trying to make a profit instead of being part of the Milsurp community and enjoy buying, trading, and selling (at a realistic price). I shake my head and wait for the good deal to come by. If your new to the hobby stay the course and enjoy the search as its the fun part of the journey. Do not pay for shipping...if the other guy is selling there is a reason.

The price is dependant completely on the supply and demand. They are not building anymore surplus rifles. When a government surplus the rifles they are selling them cheap. The importer is tacking on a markup and they are getting to you the consumer at an attractive price. When that cheap supply runs out then the market between individuals determines the fair price. You may have bought a house in Vancouver 50 years ago for 30,000 does not mean you will sell it for that today.

Don't let EE be the only indicator of prices. I find that people are too lazy to do their research and are unaware of what dealers are selling the same gun for. I kinda roll my eyes when I see stuff like a Chinese SKS for $300 while there are several dealers have the same rifle in stock for $229 and they even include the delivery. And for those who who can't do math, if you add the taxes on 229 it is still under 300! So 6 to 7 years ago, Chinese SKSs were being sold for around $200 and if you factored in inflation, the prices really haven't gone up.

There are still deals to be had even though it might not be on the EE. Given the climate surrounding the whole COVID19 thing, it shouldn't be a surprise that the dealers are a bit slow in getting things out but unlike some of the gun shops to the south, at lease our dealers are not gauging their customers but then again, the only thing Canadians would panic buy are toilet paper and beer.

I have seen some fairly eye watering prices on the EE exchange recently. Particularly a couple of C No. 7 in the $3k range seems like a lot to me....

We used to buy brand new in box SKS for $75 each. Times change....

$69.00 each if you bought a box of 10 in the late 1990's. I remember the boxes of them being a tripping hazard at gun shows at the end of the table rows.

Dealers are the leaders on new prices. If a dealers list a worn looking K31 for 900$+tax ,are you willing to sell your K31 at 260$ because you paid that price to Tradeex some years ago?

Yeah that makes sense. lever Arms was selling them for $75, less if you bought 5. We used to buy them and give them to our friends for Birthday presents. :)

C No.7s were ordered for destruction so technically none should exist for commercial resale. With transit case, routinely $4k+ in the U.S.

There was a batch of receivers floating around though apparently.

I remember seeing a bunch of cadets practicing with the No. 7's at Silverdale in southern Ontario; does anyone know what happens to the ex-cadet No. 7's?... :yingyang:

No but i am def not going to be oblivious to realistic prices and try and make "my fortune" of it. If you want to sell it be realistic and undercut the current value of the internet prices including dealers. If your going to spew garbage at least make a decent conversation out of it. And to be fair dealers are still cheaper to buy from then individuals. That point was brought up a few posts ago.

I'm surprised there aren't more deals on the EE. Maybe it's too soon to start selling toys to pay rent but it should be coming. After the 2008 meltdown there were lots of deals south of the border on ATV's, cars and boats.

This is actually a great point bobby.fox. I wished even half of the EE community reads up on "game theory". Google it. Yes, don't try to sell your SKS for a thousand bucks, but when truly rare items come up - like a C No.7 Long Branch - and you get guys undercutting each other with a race to the bottom, well guess what no body wins.

Inflated prices on EE is just a Urban Legend, the majority of sellers on EE are decent people asking decent prices. Of course like anywhere in the world are exeptions.
