How long till we see wide spread Sustenance hunting ?

As far as Private Property...… trespassing is trespassing as far as I know but in the absence of signage all bets are off in some places in this country.
Being Metis , and residing in BC , I can jump through some hoops to get a BC Metis Nation Harvester Card. It does not allow me to hunt or fish like a Status First Nations. Despite all this nonsense talk of reconciliation from the BC NDP and recognizing Indigenous rights.... Mine are not recognized as far as Section 35 of the constitution are concerned. As a Metis Hunter in BC I am expected to follow the wildlife act and yearly regulations as well as hold all licenses and tags. With the Metis Harvester Card, I can hunt migratory game birds year round..... that's it.
In other Provinces, Metis rights for hunting and fishing have been upheld and some groups have outlined territory in which they can hunt and fish as a cultural practice. I think alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba have such rights recognized and territory identified.
My thoughts on John Horgan, the BC premier's announcement that BC will be moving to recognize and protect Indigenous rights for First Nations and Metis in BC have me pondering the current system that forces me to buy a license and tags for fishing and hunting. This may be the year that I simply exercise my rights instead of playing ball with these idiot politicos who keep messing the with the hunting and doing a piss poor job of managing the land and waters combined.

How about one set of rules for everyone. Much simpler and respect everyone else. None of the above nonsense.

They may not have died on private land but they could have been on it before they fled....

If that's your standard then a lot more people should be shot...of all races! I understand and respect land owners and their desire to protect private property but I'm not sure I could shoot another human being standing on the side of the road. Threatening life of family would be a different story. As I said hope its not another Stanley narrative in that case the victim was a young intoxicated kid attempting to steal, that doesn't appear to be the case here, I say appear because we dont know for sure. It sounds like they were moose hunting and despite what others feel here, it is perfectly LEGAL. Someone decided to be judge, jury and executioner.

It is a tradgedy. We really don't know enough about it to guess otherwise.
It is likely not as it seems, the news will likely come around soon enough.

Well, the police are looking for suspects... so I'm thinking it's not murder / suicide

Somehow I think they may have difficulty on this one. A lot of angry, frustrated people out there, who have become desperate. Can you say, Public Alienation ?

So you have absolutely zero idea. Got it.

Oh are you still butthurt because of that outdoorsmen forum link I posted? Got it.

And my point of them being found on the road and possible trespassing linked together, they could have been chased off of private land and confronted on the road. Damn I didn't think I had to explain that but apparently I do.

Been reading all these posts and was actually just going to let the political rhetoric slide. Tokguy you need to get out more if you think everywhere but your part of Canada has had it easy while only the guys from the patch suffered. We had ten bad years where we are that started in '98 when the coal went down, just started to pick up and the financial crash of 08, then our lumber industry got deep sixed by Harper, we started to recover from that and NDP get in and shut down 26 saw mills. The level of crying form the Prairies tends to get wearisome.

Ontario is just late too the party, we have a tough 5 years...try to get your head around that fact.
When it was AB oil patch; folks from other regions sorta said " Well the Blue Eye'd Shieks should have saved their money in the good times, F**k them"
Now the rest of the the country is pretty much saying " I have no job and no money but it's not my fault, E.I. is SEVEN weeks away! Do something quickly!"
Hard to get your heads around it guys?
Most of the Oil patch guys had 3-4 months wages put away already...I do...it's Break Up. That is what you do.
Apparently not in the rest of the country though, money in the bank past 2 paychecks... yeah right. Hence a massive bail out before the natives get hungry.

Edit, my comments had nothing to do with the above article, that would be very callous IMO. Shame about the tragedy, I mean that whole heartedly.

I agree wholeheartedly and a lot of the whining seems to emanate from a vociferous section from Alberta. They could rid themselves of their debt if the would implement a modest PST sales tax but refuse to even consider. Guess whining about it is easier.....

lol, PST, taxation is theft and we don't need anymore of it.

The socialist solution, tax em till they bleed. :(

Its been here since the war and it isn't going away anytime soon, I'm not happy about the amount of taxes that I do pay and complaining about hasn't done any good. Our great, great (maybe even great, great, great )grandchildren are going to be paying for these bailouts, doesn't matter what government is in power. The only ones not paying their fair share are the ones that can really afford it...….they seem to get the bigger breaks..

there is not a province in this country that has a revenue problem..... they all have a spending problem. The idiots in ottowa do not have a revenue problem.... they have a spending problem. Adding a PST in Alberta is not going to change the spending habits of idiots. This bailout is a slap in the face to people who actually manage their affairs properly.

So shove your pst

Typical response for a "vociferous few" from that location...…….. :)

If Alberta spent money like BC they would have a multi billion dollar surplus, and this is without a PST.

I'm with you on the Bailout. Every spring I make sure I've got about 3-4 months wages put away to get by ( I don't do 'Pogey'...ain't since the '80's... it's for people who don't know any better IMO).
My daughter ( 20 years old) and I were visiting last night about this very thing; she is still working ( abattior ) and was curious what it is all about, I said "Well the Gov't is going to give the 'private' out of work folks and bit of money to get them by"
I'm under the belief the fed employee's are still getting paid, the media is so crazy these days, what to believe.
She was like " But I'm still working, I don't get any...but I still have to pay for it?"
Welcome to adulthood kiddo. Some folks 'add to the pile, some don't and some take away from it'. Don't let it get you down... get into a situation where you aren't an employee. CPP & EI are a dead waste of money IMO
As far as getting out more? Well I've worked 'Patch in BC, AB, SK, MB, NB & PEI ( USA and The Persian Gulf too). Canada is a great country, we are just in turmoil at the moment.
As far as AB...do you suppose we 'add to the pile, or not...or do we take away?'
But enough isolation squabbling...that's what we are all doing, sour buggers that we are...
Has there been any word on what happened to those two poor Fella's who got lead poisoning?

x2!

I am no Liberal fan but at least Chretien and Martin understood this. Their actions to reduce Canada's soaring debt was 1 part tax increases and 5 parts spending reductions.

Credit where credit is due.
