I just bought a new G22 and was under the impression that it was a Gen 4, but somebody has pointed out that it might be a Gen 3.
There’s nothing on the pistol to say what it is.
As my membership just expired , I can’t post pics yet.

It has finger grooves and it do not have adjustable back straps

I’m pretty sure all gen4 glocks say gen4 on the slide.

Another way to tell would be to look at the recoil spring assembly.
Google the difference in recoil springs and check it out.

^This.

Despite being told it was a Gen 4 you definitely have a Gen 3 there. The Gen 3’s are great guns and the differences bewteen the 3’s and the 4’s aren’t that great. I wouldn’t say it’s “less valuable” per se, some may disagree but IMO I love my Gen 3 and Gen 4 equally.

Tough spot to be in and not cool at all you were led to believe it was a Gen 4 but you can’t go wrong with a Gen 3.

It don’t really matter to me,as I’m trying to either sell or trade it.

I had a deal worked out, but the buyer realized it was maybe a Gen 3 , because of no back straps.

Yeah no backstraps is a giveaway as well but the most obvious would be the slide making. If it’s just a 22 there than it’s a 3. The Gen 4 would have 22Gen4 stamped on the slide.

Sucks you missed out on a deal because of that but I’m sure it’ll move for you if you don’t want to keep it.

also check the front sight from inside the slide.
if it has a nut you can remove with a nutdriver it's a gen 4.
if it is "staked" and has to be punched out to replace it's a gen 3.
