I recently acquired a very , very nice custom made bolt action rifle , chambered in 300 H&H . On top of the barrel is engraved " Keane No.2 " Does anyone recognize this makers name ?
Thanks !!!!!!!!!
Brian

As a follow up , I have taken some photos of this rifle which show some of the detail this maker put into his work . Thanks for looking and also any help you may be able to give in order to identify this person .SAM_4861.jpgSAM_4863.jpgSAM_4868.jpgSAM_4873.jpgSAM_4869.jpg

I have added some pics of the action to show that it is not a P17 action . The side on view of the stock would suggest that it has the "belly" of the P17 but it is simply the way the forearm has been shaped.SAM_4876.jpgSAM_4880.jpgSAM_4883.jpgSAM_4883.jpg

Here are a few more pics of the under side of this rifle which shows that the "belly ' is not real , just the shape of the stock which suggests this . The blind mag holds 3 rounds and with a bit of care a 4th rd can be chambered SAM_4885.jpg

A few photos would probably help...
There were remington-keane's but they were from the 1878 era, on the short list for first bolt action rifles. You don't have one of these.
I used my google-fu as someone suggested was so easy to do, and came up with nothing as well.

Thanks for your help anyway !! When I get this back together I will post some pictures . It is a very well made "modern" bolt action using , I believe, a Win mod 70 action

That's a lousy response...?

Posting your intelligent google link would be the correct move.

I have a very, very nice blue truck, it says 'Ford F250' on the fender...what is it worth?
This question has as much validity.
And my response was a bit blunt, but not outright rude or lousy, IMO.
Best of luck OP. Try a few different search engines maybe, sometimes that gets forgotten with Google at the top... never know, maybe Bing's different algorithm will bring it home.

I'm not quite sure why you would suggest my question has no validity ! I am simply asking if anyone should recognize this makers name . Sorry for any confusion.

My first thought was mod70 but you didn't post a close up picture of the action. Barrels and stocks alone won't necessarily reveal anything more (given the infinite combinations in custom work) information than you gave in text. It's a nice looking piece of Black Walnut, and the metal grip ring is fit nicely. (I wish someone had used the correct slot bit for it's screws) You'll want to get some oil on the rust showing by the "300 Holland and Holland" engraving as well, examine beneath the front scope base.

That big "belly" makes it look like a P14 or M1918 Enfield action. Take some pictures of the right side of the action.

That's what it looks like to me. Military Enfiield, not a M70. Is that the rifle that was listed on ####### in NS?

Hope the OP has brass cuz them's not cheap anymore.

Yeah, google does. Just got to ask it in the right way

So, did you find the answer and don't wish to share it? Or are you just assuming the OP did an insufficient search?

OP, no info, but what a beauty rifle! In a super classy cartridge!

Looks like it.

Nice looking rifle, Take a look at the bolt face and bolt release, that will tell you easily if its a P17 reworked or a rebarreled P14. Either way, dump the 300H&H, ream it to 300WM and you are good to go.

Really man; I was short, I am humbly extending an olive branch.
But; at least on antique roadshow they get to 'see' it. Clairvoyance is pretty rare these days.
OP; the last 5 or posts were getting helpful, no? You have to post a picture, have to. At 250ish posts you've probably noticed that pictures are ALWAYS preferable.
Don't come to the table expecting help without at least a decent picture.
They are worth a thousand words I hear.
