Glock america/canada price difference...buh?

Does anyone know why Glock pistols are generally 250 dollars more expensive here than in the states?

Doesn't glock ship stock directly to Canada?

Sometimes people crack me up :p

I'll sell you a Glock for $490.00 US. Of course you'll need to travel to the US to get it... you'll need to show proper documentation (proof you can legally take possession of it) to take delivery of it in the US... you'll need to get yourself an export permit to legally take it from the US to Canada... you'll need to stop at US Customs to get your export paperwork and SED stamped by US Customs... you'll need to stop at Canada Customs to get your import stuff taken care of, pay your DUTY, GST and PST if you're in Ontario... you'll need to get your import paperwork, CFC registration and ATT's dealt with... then you can drive home and enjoy your new purchase.

Glock exports guns to Canada (to a Canadian distributor)... they or the distributor have to get import and export permits, they have to pay freight costs, broker fees, bond fees, customs charges, etc.. The distributor has to register and warehouse the guns... pay salespeople to sell them to the dealers and pay staff to service and handle the warranty on Glock's behalf. Do you expect they do this for free?

Of course there's a price difference between Canada and the US... how can there not be?

I'm guessing Mark gets this question a lot.....:D

Mark - aren't Glocks made in Austria? Those costs should close if they are being shipped from the factory to both countries. Do all Glocks come through the USA to Canada?

In any case, there is a difference in pricing here in Canada and the USA for many products. I just had a conversation today with a company that sells CT scanners about a particular model. Price in the US $1M, price in Canada $1.5M. The price is determined by many factors and in a big way by what the market will bear. Canada is also a smaller market and costs to maintain equivalent levels of service are higher in Canada.

or you can buy it from gun store in the US that will look after everything on there end and bring it to the border for you for about nother $75 above what the gun cost in the store all you have to do is the paper work on the canadian side befor picking it up at the border

Glock's for North Amercian are shipped through their North Amercian office (US) and that's where the Canadian guns come from (whether they are built in the US or built in Austria they still come through the US not direct from Austria to Canada. High volume reduces costs... shipping large numbers from Austria to the US and then small parts of that from the US to Canada is still cheaper than trying to ship small shipments from Austria to Canada direct. Simply a fact of life.

Also, the value of the Euro hasn't changed that much (not like the US dollar)... if we were buying from Austria and paying in Euros I don't think we'd be as well off right now as we are paying in US $.

Give it time (I don't mean weeks). After a few months you should see pricing start to adjust. As dealers and MORE IMPORTANT Distributors/Importers sell off their higher priced inventory and replace it with lower cost units you should see prices come down somewhat... but to think you'll see them at PAR with the US prices because the dollar is at PAR that is just unrealistic. Anyone who believes that should be the situation simply doesn't understand the realities of what is involved or what is required.

No one answered my question of whether Glock ships to canada or not.

are you people saying that every Glock in canada came from the United States?

There are a few Glocks that have been imported from Europe and other places, (usually used guns), but Glock does not supply their Canadian product directly from Austria... those European guns were imported by dealers or individuals, not Glock.

Glock supplies Canada as part of their North American operations (out of Georgia).

So what is Buffalo Gun Center's price for a Glock 17 right now?

Last time I was there he was over $500.00 plus NY Sales Tax. Add the $75 and the 1.5% exchange that the bank charges even when the dollar is at PAR and you're up to just under $600.00

Now add the 3.5% DUTY that Canada Customs is going to charge you and you're up to over $600.00

We sell a Glock 17 right now for $649.99. If you figure your time isn't worth the $40... if you'd rather spend 6 to 10 weeks waiting for BGC to do your export permit and the several hours travelling and sitting at Canada Customs doing the import paperwork... and the time on the phone with CFC doing the registration and with the CFO doing the ATT paperwork... well be my guest and go on down to BGC for your purchase.

My time is worth something... yours apparently is not. Do you want a job? I can use a few people who want to work for free ;)

I think MM nailed it here. We are used to paying more than the americans and we will continue as long as we tolerate it and this stands true on many products, not just firearms. The dollar has been rising for considerably for quite some time, but we are still waiting for considerable decreases in prices. Bottom line, we are used to it and will pay it, so nothing will change.

I am not saying or expecting prices need to be at par because the dollar is, I understand the realities. But $250 a gun Bullsh*t. We are simply being taken.

Buy from Police Ordance if you can. Cheapest in Canada if you qualify as serving or retired services (LEO, Emergency, Armed Forces).

Then please gets yourself some capital or use your own money and start up a gun shop or for that matter any shop... and guarantee me that your prices will be on Par with the US...

Hey Mark.

I'm in the market for a Glock 22 and am wondering what the shipping will be like to an ON adress? Can you pick up an order from Questar?

I believe the cost on the website is $649.99 + PST and GST right? Awesome deal by the way.

Thanks for your time.

Mike

At least read my whole post before you start running off.

I still find it interesting that people love to run off at the mouth how things are so expensive and they could, should or are gonna do X about it... And yet we don't see new vendors.. It's different when it's your cash... That's all I was suggesting...

We're not gonna take it was a great song... But unless your willing to do something about it... It's only a song....

You misunderstand me.

I have no intention of being a vendor. I am saying the prices of Candian dealers (not just firearms) will only start to decrease when Candians start purchasing more from the states or other foreign sources. Until then, Canadian vendors will continue charging what the Canadian buyer is willing to pay.
