Ruger PC Carbine

CaseyK I appreciate your concern, I really do. That said, I am interested to know if you in your work ever have to make decisions. I ask that because it seems to me arguments such as yours usually come from folks who spend most of their time questioning decisions made by others.

I don't have any idea why Ruger put the safety where they did*. I know it works for me because I use the gun in competitions and it is far handier to have the safety where it is vs having it behind the rear of the trigger guard. If it were at the rear I would still have bought the gun. If it was an issue I would not have. Simple. As others have pointed out, where it is works. Frankly, if you can't reach the safety on the Ruger without adjusting your grip you have very short fingers.

As an aside I find the safety on the Sub2K more awkward to push off where it is located ie at the rear of the trigger guard. I wear medium large golf gloves.

*For most competitors, placing the safety where it is makes it much faster to disengage than any other location. Odd but true.

Take Care

Bob
ps the gun design is directed at the competition crowd where it works. They now make a version for the after market industry as well.

Good points all. I’m not slamming ruger, or their products - I am a fan. It’s just not my preference. When you speak to muscle memory, I have many thousands of rounds on the AR platform. I always engage the safety between movement and when not firing, so - its a hard transition, and while I don’t rely on the safety over safe handling in general, I prefer when ergonomics and controls are more suited to function..

Re: finger length. To disengage is doable. To put the safety on, with the same hand, while maintaining your grip, is impossible.
Would obviously be reverse for lefties

There are 2 ways to think of this, for action shooting you usually start with rifle in hand, safety off OR you start the cof with the long arm prestaged in a drop box or table in the course of fire.

Ipsc/IDPA PCC only has the one gun, so you would always start with rifle in hand or staged on a table in front of you, multigun you could have it staged seperate as you may use other guns at stage start.

The ruger pc carbine uses the exact same safety as the 10/22 rifle, there are tutorials on how to modify the stock one for left hand use, or you can buy various premade left hand safeties of factory length or extended variety.

Since your concern is putting the safety on, just slap a left hand safety in it so your trigger finger will activate it on instead of off in the stock configuration.

Really id like to be able to do both with the same hand, I see what you mean though.

Yes. The look on both RO's eyes - both trying to come up with reasons to DQ me - and not coming up with anything was priceless.

This was offset by all the ribbing I received from my fellow competitors for the rest of the season.

The next stage I participated in - I heard another squad mate (who was trying to throw me off my game) say "Lets wait to see what Len does - and then do the complete opposite".
Turning around - all three squad mates had #### eating grins on their faces - couldn't tell who said it due to my ear protection.

I like to think the RO for that stage was laughing with me and not at me - but I had my suspicions.

Must say, the comment motivated me for the rest of the match to "wipe" the smart ass grins they had on their faces when I turned around.

Lot's of "old style" AR safety options out there..... :)

I find I need to shift my hand out of the natural firing position to disengage the AR safety but when I'm engaging a safety it usually means I'm not about to fire a shot so it's not an issue.

That wasn't muscle memory; I don't think you practiced falling on your ass over and over until you automatically interposed your thumb under the hammer without conscious thought. That was just plain clear thinking and reacting calmly under pressure. Nicely done!

My standard procedure, at the time, after loading and make ready, was to holster my pistol with my thumb between the slide and frame. The thinking was if I forgot to take my finger off the trigger when re-holstering, the hammer would drop on my thumb and I would yell "owww" instead of the gun going bang. Resorted to this training when I was mid air.

I have a problem I encountered and am looking for some help/guidance. I bought a TRS-26 to use with my PC9. I thought I'd start out using the rail on the receiver as many have posted that it does not lose zero after takedown. The rail on the receiver is too narrow for the TRS-26....I cannot get it to tighten on the rail before the mount on the riser bottoms out. Has anyone run across this? I bought both of these from my LGS and I know they will help me out, I just thought I'd check here first.

Thanks,
Brian

Have you tried the optic on another rail, or another optic on the Ruger rail?

Check the threads on the mounting bolt, and mount receiver threads.

Funny.. I couldn’t get my EO tech on the ruger PCC
The pcc receiver rail has slightly different specs to a standard pic rail I think it is rugers hybrid weaver proprietary rail spec
Something to consider , most should work some will not
Test the fit of check your optics fit prior to committing to a build YMMV

Are Ruger magazines available for this rifle anywhere? Are most people using Glock mags? I don't have any handguns to match up with so it seems a shame to waste the Ruger mag because I can only get the one. Thanks

Sell the Ruger magazine, there are people who want them. Then buy glock mags. It seems easier and most cost effective that way.

Who has the best price on Glock magazines in Canada? I have a Glock 34 and I plan on using the same type of magazine for the carbine also. I will buy 20 mags so I will need to find the best price.

Is Ruger still sending us the short mags that don't fit Canadian pistols with their made for Canada 18.5" PCC's?

Kind of a dumb idea if they want to encourage Canadians to buy their pistols and share magazines.

It fits some kind of ruger handgun. That was why the guy who bought mine, did so. It's marked SR9, if that means anything specific.
