Glock america/canada price difference...buh?

Why are Para Ordinances cheaper in the States? They are made in Canada.
Probably why a Bombardier 4 wheeler that is made here is $2500 cheaper in the US.
Do dealers get a break on the export fees for large shipments from the US or is it the same as bringing in one gun at a time?
Don't firearms made in the states qualify for duty free treatment under Nafta?
Don't dealers get their taxes back when they sell the firearm. If not the gov't would be collecting 28% instead of 14%.
Some pistols are almost $1000 more expensive here.
Not to mention the auto industry who have all agreed on a common answer:
" we are now making up for all of the years of losses". That was nice of them to sell us cars at a loss.
I believe the $649 Glocks are a blow out deal. Other dealers are $200 more?

You misunderstand me.

I have no intention of being a vendor. I am saying the prices of Candian dealers (not just firearms) will only start to decrease when Candians start purchasing more from the states or other foreign sources. Until then, Canadian vendors will continue charging what the Canadian buyer is willing to pay.

And you didn't read what I said...
I'm saying go ahead
  • If you save $$$ great..
  • If you don't it sucks to be you.
  • and If it costs you more time and effort then you are willing to put into it, oh well

As long as we have Mark captive in this thread I'll ask this question as it could apply for anyone and I don't think it's an actual hijack.

Mark are you able to source and compare pricing if I ask you to find me a pistol/revolver in the US and import it to Canada for me? I know you supply the service and do sourcing for a fee etc and that's fine but can you do a bit of comparison to find a reasonable price? My particular dream gun would be a new Colt Special Combat Government in .45 Hard Chrome which vary in price depending on the dealer. I would feel comfortable knowing that with Questar's US connections that you could do some of the footwork.

Para Ordnance sells them cheaper in the States because they have to compete with the low prices of American gunmakers. The practice of selling goods in a foreign market at prices that are lower than what the manufacturer charges in the domestic market is known as dumping and is technically illegal under the international law. However, Para Ordnance is too small a fish for the Americans to start a trade dispute over its business practices.

Maybe we should ask Para to start pricing their pistols at the same prices as they are selling them for in the States. If they can make a profit in the States at (for arguments sake) $500/gun wholesale, why not sell them for the same profit margin in Canada?
When everyone starts buying Paras for $700 new in Canada the rest of the companies will have to lower prices to compete or sell less guns.

I'm pretty sure you were joking. If you weren't, I want some of whatever you are drinking. Sure, call Para and ask them nicely to lower their prices. I'm sure your opinion on the value of their products is more important than their own market research and profitability

Hint: the retail sales price of a product sold in another country is not a reasonable pricing benchmark.

I'm sure they'd be more than willing to comply with your request...NOT. Para Ordnance couldn't care less about the Canadian market. In the States, they send $25 to the NRA for every new pistol they sell. Here, not only do they charge you almost twice as much, they make absolutely no contribution to the CSSA, NFA or any other pro-gun organization. That's why I would not buy a Para Ordnance even if the managed to build a quality product.

Well said! and I don't think their guns are better than the others but more pricey.
