I'm in the process of buying an older rifle (1970s?) In 7x57 and need a scope. Since its an older classic looking rifle in wood I was debating buying an older redfield 4x scope in gloss that pop up on the exchange since looks wise it would be a match. Theyre about $100-150 depending on condition. Any advice or input on those scopes or any suggestions for a gloss scope thats maybe contemporary and comparable price/quality for what those older redfields offer? I just figure it would look slightly off slapping a new matte scope with tall turrets like most seem to have now a days. I'm not worried about 4x being too low of a zoom I have a .270 for open area hunting this will be for closer and in the bush.

They are fine in my experience. Some can have a fog on the inside or yellowish tinge to them. I would suggest a m8 6x Leupold in gloss. If you ever have an issue with it warranty is nearby. And they are every bit as classic cool as a redfield.

What should an M8 run? Im seeing $250-300. Although im sure its a good scope its hard for me to decide on that when japandse bushnell elite 3200s are in the $150 range although they arent gloss but likely decades newer.

200-250$. A nice variable vari-x IIc 3-9x40 will go 250-300$. I'm talking ones in nice condition without many scrapes and ugly ring marks

Older Weavers are usually inexpensive and work alright, Lyman 'Perma-center' were good scopes in the day, I have a few and they still work well, but in my opinion, the older Bausch & Lomb were right up there with the Leupold as far as quality and brightness. I have quite a few from the 60's and 70's, fixed as well as variables. I use them for exactly the same reason as you are looking for, matching them with vintage rifles, and they work very well and are usually less money than the Leupolds.
