Friend and I headed up behind a famr house at the crack of dawn in the rain and spied a few deer in the growing light, waited a moment, hatched a plan and a short 700m stalk up and we popped over the bank an he said, " its a good buck",
you know what goes next-
Shoot it!

Boom, flop basically, 7 or 8 does mill around and then bolt to cover of the bush.

the rain squabbles have been coming an goin since first light, we had a lucky break!?

walked down, drove up in the ute, backed up to the bank and slid him in....larfingg!!!

Do the palms get larger there ?
Nice Fallow guys, Bravo.
Thanks for sharing.
Can almost taste the tenderloins.

Rob, very possibly they would, IF blokes like Us stopped shooting them at this age once they get that set of antlers that looks 'good', you know with elk say, a small antler is a small antler, then they get decent sized,an they look good.... bang.

not just from me an my mates, my local 'island' of fallow herd is known, access is somewhat easy, they croak loud this time of year, the hunting is there to be had.....

this buck isnt old, he is a good one to let go another year to put on some mass an a bit more length..... for me a hard pass for my mate who doesnt hunt too much / family man / busy job / its a shooter.

covid might produce some bucks gettin that extra year older, which doesnt seem much but antlers side by side its noticable!

i showed poor restraint last week, so im tryin to film some bucks the next few days to make up for it.

We have a very typical CLEFT or split in the palms, above Buck is from the better herd, whereas the other herd is really poor and cops an absolute hiding from illegals, hunters and professionals.

Still, congrats to your mate who is putting meat on the table for his family!

Still a memorable adventure afield with good friends, and fine table fare to share. It is not the size of the trophy that truly matters, but the but the meat in the freezer and the memories of the experience!
And you can't eat the horns! LOL
(No worries WhelanLad! restraint is for trophy hunters who do not have hungry families to feed!)

I too look forward to the opportunity to go down under to hunt these beautiful critters!

Really nice Fallow deer Buck - I’m sure that those aren’t native to Australia, just as the one we hunted in South Africa weren’t native to SA, all originally coming fro the UK. One thing that they all have going for them is the quality of the venison, they sure are fine eating.

Congrats to your mate, he sure has fine venison in the freezer to see him through the Covid shutdown’s.
