CC MRR 11.6 1/7 reloading recipe anyone

Hey people,

I just acquired an MRR 11.6 and as I'm being quarantined and super bored, I was wondering if anybody had developed any reloading recipe for these ?
Lets be honest here... I bought my Dillon 550 3 years ago and never touched once.

I know its not a precision rifle, just a basic load that is somewhat accurate. I believe 62gr projectiles should be used with a 1/7 barrel... Asking because loads should be test and trial, but you know... Quarantine. Just looking for somewhere to start from then when shooting resume, I'll go from there.

Lets take down this paper the more accurately possible.
 
The challenge with load development during quarantine is you'll only get to make a series of test loads - say for a ladder test - then you're unable to do the testing. So, the furthest you can get is about 10-20% of the way into the process.

I'm doing all my brass prep that I've neglected for years, or loading recipes I already have.

As for a 11.6, 1/7 load for .223... I'd start with 62 gr, if you could shoot to test that load and it didn't work I'd first go heavier instead of lighter... even 69 or 75gr.

In general, faster twists prefer heavier bullets and heavier bullets have less performance loss with shorter barrels.

Try googling recipes to mimic 62gr M855, the rifle was designed to fire military ammo after all.

I have 3lb for Varget for now. No other component for 223

Googling that recipe isn't a bad idea... Might try that.

I know I won't be able to 100% develop my load for now, but at least if somebody has something with the same rifle (even tho it varies from rifle to rifle...) I would know where to start to develop mine
 
Same load for both my 11” 1-7 and 16” intermediate 1-8
Powder - H335 25gr / 55gr. Hornady
62gr.Hornady - 22gr
 
I was actually working up a new load for my 16" 1/7 Colt 6920 yesterday because I was switching from 62gr PRVI FMJBT to the Hornady 62gr FMJBT. BLC-2 powder in Federal case with CCI 400 primers, bullets seated at 2.250". Just wanted a quick load work up cause it's not for accuracy use really so anything around 2 moa would be satisfactory. 25.5gr shoots tighter but at 2600fps about 200-250fps slower (I'd have to look at my notes again) whereas 27.5 is still only slightly over 2moa but is at about 2850fps. For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure the sub-moa group was a fluke. All groups shot at 100 yards with a 3x Elcan OS3X.

Brass prep...I figured I couldn't be the only one. I hate prepping brass, up side, turns out I have a pile, at least 1,000 pcs of 1f LC, 1,500 pcs Winchester 1F, and about 500 pcs of mixed fired about 3 times, here I though I was getting low. Also about 2,000 more but that's the suspect pile, probably will go to scrap.

I'm guessing you're not going to try any 1/2 MOA challenges with it so ultimate precision probably isn't a concern. If not, getting 55gr Hdy FMJ's should still be pretty simple, and probably shoot just as well as 62gr FMJ. If you were really worried about precision I'd try 60gr V-Max, or 69gr SMK, if not 55gr, or 62gr, one isn't likely to perform any better than the other in this case. Horny D's latest manual shows max for a 55gr FMJ and Varget as 26.4gr. If I were in your boots I'd do 10-20 at 25.2, and go up 0.3gr - 0.4gr to max, and get everything ready to run off a bunch once you settle on the charge.

As I have no projectiles so I have to buy some anyway... I am tempted to go for 62gr right off the bat. Looks like paired with Hogdon H4895 it makes a really nice combo.
From their website, they show it'd run at max 3004fps with 23gr of H4895 out of a 24" barrel... I'm only concerned because I don't even have the half of that barrel lol

I`m almost sure that is a crime!

The varget you have will work, and 62gr (or heavier) will probably be more accurate.

Hornady 62gr with H335 22gr. 16” -2800fps ave, 2700fps ave on the 11”
Hornady 55gr H335 25gr - 16”-3050fps ave , 2900fps ave
Both 62 and 55 shoots very accurate on my 16” and 11” rifles ,sub moa, the 16” intermediate Odin barrel shoots soft and very flat since I had adjustable GB and JP SCS

H4895 is good stuff for 5.56, probably the most versatile. Faster powders might work better in the short barrel, regardless it's going to be a healthy flash in all likely hood. 62gr Projectiles, should be better, but that's assuming you are getting decent quality from the manufacturer.

I ordered a Surefire Warcomp/Warden for that matter...

Western Metal has some 62gr in stock, I think it's their home brand. If not, I'd be looking for some Hornady
