Where can I find the cheapest .30-30 .308 cal bullets?

I can't say anything about .30-.30 but for target shooting the best value (IMO) .308 I've seen are campro .308 147gr FMJ BT's. Last I checked I found they were $125 for 500 rounds. 25 cents a piece ain't bad and I can shoot an 8" gong at 200 yards all day long with them and that's good enough for me.

Maybe not the best idea in a tube mag gun though, which I assume is what he's using.

I was just in the same boat and ended up buying Winchester flat nose. Berry's were intriguing but I was scared off by the 2000fps maximum they publish. I will try them some time but I'm totally new to 30-30, I don't want to have to worry about loading too hot and the bullets coming apart.

Meh.... load those fmj up with some real light trail boss loads and plink away.... seat em backwards if your worried. Not enough recoils to detonate and super cheap shooting, almost as cheap as lead. You’d be surprised how accurate the backwards ones are out to the 75 yard mark ....

i get the casting is cheap but unless your fairly time rich, its a bit of a hassle :)

so maaaaach easier buying them in the bulks :)

I will disagree with you there. Smelting, takes you a saturday afternoon. Casting bullets, I turn on the pot just before supper. Pop in my shed after supper and in short order have 200-300 bullets. Powder coating would be about the same.

So if you can spare 10-12 hours a month you can get 1000 a month easy(ref 6 bangers)

i understand, but you have to love it next level and or shoot alot and a bit of a tin ass :p

i can understand the sense of acheievement or pride when harvesting game with ya own bullets from yer tyre weights and fishin sinkers tho

hope ya well

Whelan is right. It's a lot less work and a whole lot faster to just order up a load of bullets vs casting your own. I can order up a thousand bullets online and pay for them in less time than it takes for your melt pot to warm up. Never mind all the other steps.

I do cast a few sizes which due to my love of black powder round ball and 38-55 cartridge. But while FAR cheaper in the long run the initial buy in and learning to set up for casting and sizing is a pretty hefty price tag both in cost and time. And for some domestic situations perhaps not a viable one. So some extra hoops to leap through before the first bucket of bullets is ready for loading. And even once well on the way and all the lessons learned we're trading a lot of time to save some money. It's not just the dropping from the mold. There's the smelting down of the lead scrap, then assaying the lead and arranging different alloys and recipes for each use, then the casting, then the lubing and sizing or sizing, powder coating and sizing again. That's a lot of steps and time before the first bullet is placed on the mouth of the first casing.

Milsurplovr and Pocisk, look at the load data for cast lead bullets and use that for the plated stuff. This is also in line with what is suggested on the Berry web site.

Locally for me Rusty Wood Trading has their own cast bullets at $55 for 200 for their LRNFP 150gn bullets. So just 31 to 32 cents per bullet after paying for the bullets and taxes. Mind you for your situation there would be shipping as well. You'd have to get a quote from them to see what the final damage would be and see if the price is still attractive compared to what you can find locally.

Cast loads will run at up around 1500 to 1600 fps just fine and be great for plinking and seeing if you can tag that target out at 300 yards.

Watching....
I second the Berrys plated bullets. Looked just now... not even listed in the placed I ordered from... yesterday where they had 15 boxes. Budget shooting supply has Missouri whitetail 165 gr cast projectiles in stock. 20.50$/100. 14 in stock.
