Goin Moose huntin!! (update, Moose down!! pics are up)

um yer rifle yer body a sound peice of mind and a xtra pair of boxers and were good to go ! maybe next time Im in PG ill stop in at the shop and BS for a bit ...anywere around us is good more dam grizz than I think I have ever seen or heard of being seen this year including my bear I call him, about a 9 footer around 600 pounds, see him almost daily fishing in a river near were we are logging

lol well in all fairness the Ford the is only 2wd and it's a diesel so it just dug huge holes soon as the front end sank into the muck.

Kyle.

I had my 86 f250 diesel sunk almost the same (also 2wd), except it was the left front only. Right rear was just barely touching the ground, front frame and bumper sunk in the mud. It took a backhoe to get mine out.

Was the moose shot with your handloads or factory??:)

well I dont handload just yet my friend so I was just using run of the mill cheap Winchester grey box 180gr soft points. (same type that blew up on my deer last year if you can rember that) they didnt blow up this time lol full pass through. I was kinda nervous about using them but I couldnt find any other kind of ammo.

Kyle.

Nice moose ! I'm in the process of trying to set something up for moose myself with a friend of mine, she's an experienced hunter and I've never shot anything that isn't made out of paper ... They do say go big or go home ... 'been trying to set something up for <any> kind of hunting for the past 5 years with friends, family etc, no luck yet, it always seems to fall appart somewhere along the process ... Maybe this year. :D

well what we did was jack the rear up with a jackall and then cut up chunks of a log and filled in the holes with em. then put it back down and attempted to pull, that still didnt work so we jack it up again and tried to pull with the rear wheels off the ground, that didnt work either. so then we back up the truck and put really close to the rear of the Ford and just gave er it took 2 or 3 runs at it but we finally manged pull it out. I should mention that doing that is kinda dangerous as the forces acting on the rope and tow points is emense when try doing this manouver and can cause the rope to snap, tow hooks to break etc and you dont want a tow hook flying at your head doing 100mph.

it would have taken a backhoe or something similar to get it out if we didnt have that jackall. best damn tool you can buy if your gonna be in the bush. I baught mine for $20 from V V boutique

A jackall wouldn't have helped in my case, the rear wheels were not dug down and nothing to push on to lift the front. The Backhoe operator backed in, dropped the stabilizers and stretched the hoe back as close to the truck as he could get it. We ran a chain from the bucket back to the trailer hitch and he used the hydraulics on the hoe to pull her out. This was on a construction sight, not in the bush, so the backhoe was handy. A loaded gravel or cement truck might have worked also, but none handy at the time.

so were back. the weather was the s**ts it rained just about every day for the week and half where we were out. we decided enough was enough and came back a couple days early. I ended up getting my Bull :), but nobody else got one or even seen anything other then one small cow on the drive home.

maybe im lucky I guess cause it's a fairly nice Bull for my first one. Im quite happy with him. it's a bit early still they arnt really into full rut yet, plus all the rain just made for some s**tty hunting. anywho after all's said and done it was still alot of fun even if the the hunting wasnt as stellar as it could have been.

Ok so here's the pics. (there's quite a few so be warned if you have dialup ;) )

ok so lets first start off the obligatory scenery and misc. pics.

thank you and yes it's an old enfield.

the grey box im talking about are the super x ones. they worked half decent for the moose id say. last year I shot my dear from about 30-40yrds and the bullet complty disentgrated on impact and made a massive hole and sent little bits of shrapnell through the chest cavity. If I can find the picture I'll show you.

Hey Bone, which half of the engine was left? Seems to be a fair amount of white smoke coming out of both pipes, so I'm guessing the bottom half :p .

BTW meant to say nice moose chopperhead. I leave in the morning for a week of moose hunting.
