Great looking project.
But, based on my observations, training a LOT of newbs on lathe work, more of them run in to the shoulder than stop the thread cutting too late.
I will admit to having seen several sets of projects where the maker converted their half nuts lever in to a similar snap-open trigger operated system, but figured the time making such would have been better spent practicing the work they were trying to avoid.
I remember in high school ..running a lathe for the first or second time...making a handle for a hammer, we were making in class...running up to the edge, and not stoping fast enough...bent it at about a 20-30 degree angle....metal handle fell out of the lathe...my heart sunk in my chest. Oh well had to make another one! Know there are no machinist course at ,that school anymore...took all the machinery out years ago...what a waste!
Yeah, funny that, schools staffed entirely by folks that got degrees, teaching to keep the degree programs running, without a clue to be had as far as how the rest of the world works and what they do to make a living.
Best line ever! "Oh, you make those? I thought you just bought them!"
