The cylinder is out of timing , when I caulk the hammer slowly the cylinder doesn't position itself were it should , but if I caulk it at a decent rate all is fine and and it fires reliably

I would suggest buying Kuhnhausen's book on Colt DA revolvers ( and make sure you get the one for leaf spring revolvers, there is a second one for the coil spring guns) and doing it yourself. It isnt rocket science, just go slowly and think about it before you start filing. - dan
 
Somehow the idea of filing is a bit scary.
I suspect the hand is not pushing the cylinder into battery, and may be worn.
No expert on Colt, but if it were a S&W that would be my guess.
