Got my Antique GASSER hand Canon (Pics) This you gota see

OK this might not be the pretty gun of the week BUT its one of the most powerfull :D
Theres a 45 colt next to the Gasser Rd in the pics!
I been after a good one of these forever! this gun has the Pryse type paddles.
which Counet aparently pattened before Pryse!
This gun came today i had to get it shipped twice in the US to get it and it Finally showed up.
Its a AF Counet these were one of the best gun makers in Belgium pre 1898.
The things cylinder is 1.900 Long and the chamber walls are .100 thick!

The deep part of the cylinder stop notch cut outs are not over the chambers like most guns.
The cases get made from resized 45 70 cases shortened.
This one has a minty Bore and Chambers is in Ex shape and is not made from Cast steel like the older orignal gassers.
Its a Gasser copy. 5 shot cause they couldnt fit 6 ;) BUT and the gun is smaller than a webley MKVI 455!
Its all cylinder.

Sorry cant help you there a Buddy From South Africa sent them to me so i posted them here in Hunting Rifles Thread as a warning to be Carefull.

I didnt think it would be such a big Deal and turn into a 3 page thread! as i was only trying to tell people Be safe.
 
With a cartridge like that, I don't think you will have to check to see if it went off when you pull the trigger! How's the recoil?

Dingus,you always find the wicked handguns ! You never stop to amaze me..I'd like to have one of theses antique,but i don't have thousand of dollars to spend of theses beauties (like this one :D) !

I have Not shot it yet i only got it yesterday.
Bear defence why not its got a more powerfull rd than the 45 colt.

whats so weird is it fits in my Bianchi Cyclone 111 holster perfect, with just the tip of the 5.3 inch barrel sticking outa the holster.
What im trying to say is its a Very compact gun.
I love the way it fits perfect like the newer Bianchi was made for the 1880s gun LOL
AF is Alfred or something like that frist name then last name Francotte and he was The Belgian gun maker back then.
Counet was the company that got AF to build his guns.
Counet did patent the Pryse type levers latch system before pryse. it was used mainly on the bigger 577 handguns built for Counet.
 
Well its a case of makeing up Cases!
David Doyle is sending me some 45 70 cases he has so once i get them i will get her up and running.
I only had one kicking around to make up that Rd for the picture.

No Videos tho! maby a few pics. ;)

p.s Dingus don't get distracted with your new old west magazine until you get them cases trimmed-loaded-fired.
 
OK i found out Today from a good Buddy i need 7.62 x 54 R cases to make Gasser Cases from, Way easyer than 45 70 cases.

Anyone got any 7.62 x 54 R Brass kicking around they could spare say 20 emptys?
I was told the ranges are full of them but there all steel case :confused:

Im still gona use the 45 70s David just in my Martini Rifle ;)
 
OK UP dates I have made Ammo for this Hand canon outa David Doyles 45 70 cases He sent me!

also out Andys 7.62x 54R cases he sent me as well.

Both worked! the chamber mouths of the 54rs need alot of expanding. the cases should fireform nice tho.
The 45 70s only work cause i have a Lathe.
And cause there brand new and only needed a small amount of brass taken off at the base end.

It worked out great! getting the cases loaded.
I will be talking her out to shoot the Huge Ammo soon!
My load is 7 grs of Trail boss with a 454 dia x 250 gr Keiths bullet. ;)
Should be intresting.

OK i Shot it and 7 grs of TB is to low a load for such a big case.
The gun can handle way more it was like Pop pop Pop and no Recoil at all.
But it grouped nice just low on the target.
Im gona full pyrodex these suckers like my 50 70 Rem rolling block then i should barely be able to handle it maby LOL
i could try a 8 or 9 gr unique load as well.
My 6 gr TB 45 colt loads kicked way more than this 7 gr TB load.
Back to the reloading bench.
was still alot of fun tho!
this will be a killer gun once i figger a good hoter load. Im gona go to .458 Dia HB bullets as well.

Hello. I am new to this site but find it very interesting. I have a RAST & GASSER that perhaps you may help me identify. It is double action , 8 shot, with a cyl dia of 320 and grove to grove of 330 {aprox} . I have been unable to find any info among my books, but perhaps I need to look farther. It seems very well made . By lowering the trigger guard the left side plate will hinge to the rear , for cleaning I assume. Any way , if you can help me , our point me in the right direction for a book I would be very gratefull.
