Nothing all that special, just a .308, but a useful caliber and it was the only semi-affordable Remington Model 7 "Mannlicher" that I could find in new condition. Its a great handling slim little rifle, and so far, scope free. (The shadowy photo makes it look bulkier than it actually is...sometime I'll have to get around to taking a better picture.)

A 308 would be the best choice from a practical standpoint for one of those rifles. Remington would not be the first to come to mind for a full stocked rifle, but they did do a very nice job with those. Many companies do not get it right and it does need to be right or looks goofy or clubby. I'd like to have one in 35 Remington or better yet, 358 Winchester if it was offered.

That CZ you had re-worked was very nice as well. I could see something like that in 9.3x57.
 
Comparison, Remmy vs. Whinny ...

Model 700 American Hunter -- in 6.5cm :
- receiver = steel (ceracote)
- barrel = 20 " steel fluted (ceracote)
- stock = B&C
- weight = 6.75 lbs
- price = $1540 CAN (at Reliable Gun, Vancouver)

Model 70 Extreme Weather -- in 6.5cm :
- receiver = stainless
- barrel = 22 " stainless fluted
- stock = B&C
- weight = 6.75 lbs
- price = $1550 CAN (at Reliable Gun, Vancouver)

Each to their own, but my choice would be for the stainless M70 EW.

Nice little rifle fer sure. :) Can't knock the .308 for versatility. Tis' an easy unit to upgrade to peep sights like the Williams WGRS or XS Sights to suit aging peepers.

All of the peep sights I can locate are meant to fit the 700 and not the 7. Would love to get one for the 2 hole model 7 .
 
But what peep will fit the Model 7 that has the one hole in the rear receiver bridge?

I have various types of peep sights on several rifles but they are all just fun "back ups", not serious front line hunting rifles. With only a couple of exceptions (like my best Blacktail buck shot with open sights in the pouring rain), my best game was all shot in legal twilight conditions that I think required a scope. Sooner or later I'll find the right rings and scope for the Remington...until then the open sights will do.

The model 7 I have has 2 holes on the rear bridge, if that's the right term, about 0.500" spacing. The 700 has a rear spacing 0.800" approx. The bases are no where near similar. Maybe you can run the xs sight with 1 screw? I did email them in January but no answer yet
