Current smiths that can shorten a handgun barrel to legal minimum

Hey there,
I'm thinking the folks at the border just got fed up with learning how to measure properly, and that's why all the "canadian legal" compact pistol barrels are coming over at 4.25" instead of 4.17".

In my opinion, the looks of a 4.25 out of a compact frame gun just looks silly and the 10% of an inch difference is noticeable. That's me. I'm also thinking that's why it's more common to find threaded versions of compact guns because the 4.25 looks silly, so why not throw a useless threaded cap on it to make it even longer!

Long story short I'm wondering if any current smiths can make my new FN 509 barrel look nice with a bit of a reduction and what the cost and turnaround time would be.
 
Barry at Bits of Pieces in Delta has shortened a couple barrels for me and I've been very happy with the work and price. The turnaround time however is never as quick as I would like.

Yeah!

I think it probably has to do with the manufacturer making sure the barrel is slightly over the legal length to make sure it is restricted and not prohib. Personally I would want to be a few thou on the safe side rather than a 'dead on' measurement that is debatable by the various 'agencies'...

And by the figures in post one it is only 80 thou... just over 1/16 of an inch the op wants removed... not 10% of an inch.

California has some stupid laws the same as here, about short barrels I thought I read some where, But I am not sure about that.

because I've had several legal knives turned away or destroyed at the border because the factory pivot was 1/8 lb too loose on the torque scale, making them an automatic knife and prohibited weapon LOL. Then when you call the number to discuss the issue they never answer the phones... then they send you a bill for the 'cost' of destroying it.

Why would it be anyone else's issue but the folks looking at imports for meeting legal requirements? I'm sure between the importers and the manufacturers, the extra length is what they came up with as a work-around to too many incorrect refusals and seizures

LOL yes. .25 to .15 is 10%, .25 to .17 is still 10% to my eyeball at quick glance. Now stop screwin around ;)

It's purely cosmetics, and I am just looking for a smith and a cost. not a bunch of banter :)
 
This is the only post I've seen on smith and Wesson handgun barrels and I'm actually looking to see if I can get rid of a shorter barrel on a model 66 357 magnun and getting a restricted size barrel instead of the prohibited under sized one on it now. Cant get any 4.25 or longer barrels anywhere but hoping to find one here. It's also a stainless steel barrel I need. Thank for any help I can get.
 
There are not any new barrels for S&w model 19/66 you may find a used.I replaced the barrel on my model 19 had to machine a model 586 barrel to fit not cheap although it now has a full underlug.

You never know...the RCMP could toss the barrel in Dry Ice before they measure it up...

Nothing saying they couldn't.
