Yesterday I finally got mad enough at my Ruger extractor (what a piece of junk) to attempt to fit a Model 70 Williams machined steel extractor to it. It fit and functioned well on the bolt and in the receiver, but my Model 70 extractor was a standard and the Ruger is a magnum so that meant some modification. All went well and it has improved function ten fold. If anyone is interested, it seems to be a viable option.

It was an over sized mess. It wouldn’t hold a cartridge properly and drop about 50% of the cases during extraction. Trying to tension it was a useless endeavour. A wet noodle would hold its shape better.

Unreal, good home made diy gunsmothing mate.

well done for fixing a problem and not sending it back to a shop to get fixed..... like the 'pros' do .

what cartridge is that?
i have a Hawkeye in a .35 Whelen, it all seems fairly solid an no issue wih extracting.

Interesting, I have never had a problem with Ruger extractors, but that doesn't mean one can't have a problem. Mechanical devices are not immune to failure. Good work on the fix!
