Jungle carbine questions that need answering.

If in good serviceable condition and not modified from as-issued, a buyer would be doing well to get one for $500. Most are asking more.

I'd suggest that a "matching" No.5, that has not been buggered with is a $500 or so dollar rifle. It is not, yet, as pricey as No.4s have become. But, with the market/economy currently taking a beating, prices will begin to decline on these sorts of rifles...

As others have stated.
It’s likely in the $500 range.
Difficult to know overall conditions from those limited photos.

People asking for $750-$1000 for No. 5’s are not reasonable IMHO and I don’t think they are selling at those prices.

Shoot straight - chrisco

They may not be "reasonable" but I doubt you can find someone who would sell a No5 for $500.00 that is in good to very good condition. IMHO, a good condition No5 would sell upwards of $750.00.

What is the trade for and why does the guy not want the No.5?

There is a good video on forgotten weapons about what to look for in a No.5, probably take a peek at that then ask the guy questions.

Have you ever shot one? .... it's a little beast, so if you don't like recoil ;)

$500, I have not seen that in quite some time, $550/$600/$650 for one with issues is what you generally see, non matching, missing flash hider etc. (the flash hider is frequently missing)

Bought mine back in the late 60's at the Army & Navy in Regina. They had a barrel full in the basement....

It was still in grease and it cost me the princely sum of $30.00. That was a lot when the minimum wage was $1.00 an hour...

Sold it for $35.00 to a buddy and bought a Winchester 30-30

BTW - They have a bit of a kick and the flash hider rung like a bell :)

Has the flash hider or bayonet lug been cut or modified? I didn't see it on the pics, There might be a reason why there is no pic of the muzzle. Also, make sure the bolt number is matching. Non matching or modified flash hider would cut the price in half for me

Your rifle "looks" to be matching (stock and action). Few questions: Need to know if the bolt matches. As mentioned, is the Bayo lug is cut? Bore condition? How is the butt pad?
The stock looks like out has been stained. If the bore is exe cond and serial numbers match, Price between $650 and $800 imho

IME the value (the price a buyer is prepared to pay) for a No5 has increased substantially over the past couple of years. A good matching BSA, wartime, with the correct sling will start at $700-750.

you need better pictures,, those pictures could hide a lot. a messed up flash hider, bayonet lug, or buttstock, would make it a $250. rifle at best.

An online auction based in 'Toon just sold one for $556. Finish in good condition generally, but drilled and tapped for a Weaver TO-1 mount (included, and rings,) synthetic stock, no rear sight. I quit bidding at $310 because it wasn't worth more to me, but I expected it to go for more than I would pay. Was a bit surprised it went as high as it did.

Mmmm...$556.00 + $350 for replacement stock (optimistic cost and if you can even find one) + $125.00 for a rear sight (No5 sights are near impossible to find, so probably a No4 sight) - $50.00 resale value for the crappy stock equals having spend $981.00 total. Of course, you still have a drilled action and incorrect sight. You did the right thing on passing this "deal" up.
