Need expert advice --Canstar

...I Need expert advice on a Canstar Arms D.C. Model CS 50 . I am looking at a possible buy . The rifle looks very good , 100 rounds ammo available as well . Question : are they dependable ? Desirable ? Ideas on value ? Interest?

Having seen several of both the Canstar and the Noreen, both are bottom of the bucket entry type rifles. They are exceedingly simple actions so little to go wrong as long as you make certain to release the pressure on the firing pin spring which will collapse if stored with pressure on the spring. There is little to no primary extraction so the intelligent use of a deadblow hammer is required to open the bolt. The ones I have seen have re-worked M2HB barrels, so accuracy is .........

You can find them on the various EE for between $2000.00 and $2500.00 which is about all they are worth. They have ZERO collectors value. You really get what you pay for with either of these gems.

The Canstar is on par with the DA50, both leave lots to be desired. Junk ammo can be found for around $4.00 per round. Decent ammo around $6.00 per round good ammo around $7.00 per round.
Reloading is the best way to shoot as economically as possible.

Is the ammo expensive and is it available ?

You should be aware that no range on Vancouver Island is templated for 50 BMG. You cannot shoot 50 BMG on any range here. You will need access to crown land (or own a lot of land yourself) to be able to shoot. Crown land is actually very scarce on the Island since most of it was given to/bought by Island Timberlands by the government. Most of the land that's anywhere near the old E&N rail line is also privately owned, as it was given away when the rail line was built and has passed through the hands of Mac & Blo, Crown Zellerbach, Weyerhauser, Western Forest and now Island Timberlands. Lots of folks make the mistake of thinking they're on crown land - they aren't, especially from CR south.
