Covid-19 milsurp prices skyrocketing? Will they hold after the virus diminishes

$2000 for a sporterized Krag...

Switzers auction was today, check out some of the prices for a laugh, makes 10+ bumped posts on the ee look like a bargain. I don't get it, must be auction fever. $8300 + tax + buyers premium for a Canadian contract 1911, $1400 for a refurb svt40, insane.

I've seen a few Canadian WWI 1911s in worse shape but still over 2K minimum, looking at the prices in the states (RIA) it looks like they are valued at up to 5K USD in exc condition?

Not only surplus. I was following both Switzer's auction and Ward's auctions for the last 2 weeks. Prices were insane for 95% of the various guns sold given their condition. Prices you would never realize if listed for sale privately somewhere. One example--$1000.00 plus fees, taxes and shipping for a $300.00 Thompson Center Renegade with a $150.00 brass replica Japanese scope on it. And with these auctions it is not like the old days when they were just live and you had to make up your mind PDQ if you wanted to bid. Now you have 2 to 3 weeks to think about it and look up prices and people still bid insane amounts.

it is hilarious to think some are complaining about the price. many years ago the price for the sks mosin and svt was predicted and people were laughing about it.

when im seeing yugo sks selling for $800 and people buying them who said something: none but a chinese or a russian it is a problem lol ... an sks is an sks ...

ching ching.... i knew dumping my stock investments into milsurps was a good idea...my friends thought i was crazy, lol. They are all whining about losses in the markets.......told them i am up 10-30% since xmas and they nearly flipped. They know who's laughing now.

better than gold. mulsurps, ammo and toilet paper..... lol

Prices are down a little. And Sales are up a lot. Non restricted rifles, antique arms, and parts.
People generally don't have much disposible cash right now.
The country will be in very bad condition very soon, and by then most of the people who had money to spend on non essentials will have near none. Starting soon sales will be slow and last for years, until the 2020 's Depression ends.

good! I have toys to buy! Ive been waiting for the prices to drop. As bas as it sounds, when people get a little hard on cash there should be some good deals.

Dutch Tulip mania (if you don't haven't heard about it, its a good read).

Collectible markets are hard to predict. It's basically a betting game (you "bet" you can guess the models will be desirable in the future). With collectibles, you need to predict what the next generations will cherish and pay a premium for. Nothing is guaranteed. And don't be surprised when you try and "cash out" and nobody wants your overpriced junk.

Well if it’s SKS’ we’re all laughing!....accept Bubba

I watched the Switzer auction yesterday because I had a bunch of items in it.

I was shocked at the prices paid both high and low. If I had 25k lying around I would have bought a couple dozen items that went at less than market value.

Just depends on how long you can sit on your hands during the auction.

Indeed, how much is that special Beanie bear that people paid $100 for back in 1998 worth today?
