What Happened To The CZ75?

You remember last year when there was a huge, nationwide sale on CZ products? I was kind of looking for an excuse to get a new 9mm, so I figured I would look out for a CZ75 B at a good price and pick it up. But lo, the sale came and went and I didn't see a single one among the goodies. "Oh well", I thought, " I guess they didn't have any overstock of that one. I'll just have to wait a bit to see a good price, or cave in and pay full price if I decide I want one badly enough".

So I have kept a loose eye on the better retailers for the last several months, looking to see what comes up, and I'm really starting to notice that the CZ75 never comes up, at all. I can't find that any dealer anywhere in the country has one for sale. So, what's up? Did they discontinue what was to me the most important thing in their line up?

I am talking here of the plain old CZ75 B. I can find lots of Phantom, SP-01, Tactical Sport, and Shadow models, but I'm not interested in those.

I’ve learned this lesson the hard way.

To the OP, I don’t know why but I feel like in the last 7 years or so I’ve barely seen any new CZ 75Bs for sale. I was on the hunt for one in 2014 and luckily CanadaAmmo managed to get about 10 or so in. I was like you, I just wanted the base model CZ 75B (my first handgun). I don’t recall seeing any other ones at any dealers that weren’t the Omega, New Edition, or Stainless since then. I guess they’re just not that popular since guns like the SP-01 Shadow are not that much more money and are easier to shoot. I know in my club new shooters tend to gravitate to the Shadow 2 because they’re so easy to shoot. They’re willing to spend the money on a good gun without even thinking about shooting IPSC or any other competitions so why would dealers stock a gun that makes them less money? If you really want one that bad a dealer could probably order one in since they’re still in CZ’s catalogue.
 
Lever Arms (Vancouver) has a surplus 'shooter grade' for $575 at the moment.

Siwash Sports (Chilliwack) has some Saudi surplus 75B's for $700
 
Nothing happened to it i still have mine! haha. All joking aside maybe they just make/import less as most people want the shadow or the tactical models.
 
There are a few military surplus ones on a couple of sites now; but generally, as for used one, the people that buy these guns like them and don't often sell them.
 
The only CZ I know of that is out of Production is the CZ 85 Combat. the 75B is really a basic model and I suspect there is little demand in Canada for the model as most I would assume would want the Shadow or the other higher end variants of the 75B. The price points are very close, say between the 75B and the Shadow.

I have that gun and it is an outstanding shooter and well worth the premium pricing. It is, what the 75B could be with a lot of work Note it does not have the firing pin block, the absence of which makes an outstanding trigger possible If the OP really wants a 75B pistol this is his best option with albeit a higher price tag. I have seen excellent examples on the EE for under $900. They do come up every so often.

Even at IRunGuns the only CZ75 B on offer is the stainless one. Otherwise they have BD, compact, and commemorative models.

It is true that if you go to the CZUB website it is still shown at being available, but it is becoming clear to me that the design is on its way out. I guess that Canadian dealers are not the only ones reluctant to stock them.
 
Take it from Canuck 44. He is one of the CZ Gurus here. I have a Shadowline version of the Shadow 1. As Canuck 44 mentioned as to his CZ75, it is a terrific shooter without doing any modification. The only awkward part here is the hammer. Odd shaped, but overall, a great shooter. My SP01 Shadowline I got back in 2014 was under $ 900. I still see these Shadowline series for about $ 1400+. And once in a while, used for under $ 1000. You can still find some Police Surplus CZ 75 for about $ 550 from several dealers. And if you can find a reasonably priced pre-B model, go for it. The pre-B still commands a good following because of the terrific trigger. Just be careful of the well hated Hammer Bite because of the hammer and beavertail design.

I wanted to get a fairly minimalist CZ 75, so when I could not find a 75B I picked up the 85 Combat model. It's exactly the same and is compatible with the CZ 75 magazines. I put a set of Lok Grips on it and bought a couple of extra magazines. The money saved goes into plinking ammo.

Only problem is, the 85 Combat is discontinued.
 
There was a 85 Combat on the EE just the other day. The guy wasn't asking much for it either. The only downside to the 85C is the right hand slide release lever. The early slide release levers broke off on the right side. CZ increased the diameter of the shaft but a friend over in Alberta told me the issue continued after the change as well. The model is an excellent pistol just be aware the release does have that reputation. I suspect heavy use such as in IPSC or IDPA might contribute to the issue.
