I read that the Model 469 was "inspired" by the ASP. Mine is as close as I'll likely get. I must say the one geologist posted certainly got my attention! I sold the 469 in my original post but picked up another which is in better shape.

EDIT: Just as I was posting this another member PM'ed me a link about an ASP for sale on Gunbroker—it looks to be in great shape but unfortunately since it's prohib it can't be imported.

We had discussed your 469 and it is pretty close to the ASP. Too bad about the US ASP! So close!

However, the one in my mind is not a Gen 2. It’s a Gen 3 gun but for the life of me, I cannot find it described anywhere and it doesn’t seem to be in the S&W catalogue either.

It would be a double stacked compact ( like your 469), DAO and has a 2 tone finish ( blued slide, matt finished frame). So in S&W nomenclature, it would be a 6957. But searching for that on Google reveals nothing. I remember staring at it in the display at Levers. Alan used to have a ton of S&Ws on a rack behind glass in his old location. I really wanted this gun but DAO was a new thing in the late 80s and I wasn’t sure it would catch on. And I was broke too so that didn’t help.

It seems either I’m totally mistaken or it was a limited edition gun.

I remember his shop from those days as well, SA. I think he had every caliber, variant and barrel length N frame, K frame and L frame. Went back three time before i bought my first - a 686. I actually wanted the 3" 629 but my dad talked me out of it. Wish he hadn't as I'd have a 12-6!

I am sure he did have every S&W revolver variant going. I bought one of my first revolvers from Alan in ‘86. A 2 1/2” 686-2 round butt. Still have it and, after a little searching, the original box. One of my favorite .357’s, especially at those old prices.

Very nice. That was the same year I bought mine and if I recall they had just come out with that barrel length for the 686.
