Anyone ever seen one for sale or know of anyone that owns one of these rifles? FRT lists it as restricted in Semi-auto mode.

Wait frt lists it as restricted? I assume that would be only because of barrel length. If this is true someone needs to start bringing these into the country with NR barrel lengths yesterday.

I think the movie one was an FNC.

Isn't the CAL prohibited? Like anything else that was both popular and photgraphed into magazines from the eighties.

Only 22 were ever imported into the US, not sure that it is a plentiful gun unfortunately

The FNC is rare, the CAL was the forerunner to FNC.
I should have kept mine (FNC) but there were so many black rifles to choose from couldn't keep them all.
That and a new FN C1 A1 should have stayed on my rack.

I have seen one. I know a chap who owned one. They were imported by Browning Canada. During the same period, Browning was also importing FN made Uzis. Doubt that there are more than a handful in the country.

Yeah I had seen these mentioned in a couple threads on here. Was also quite interested and had done some digging but never found anything.

Is this not the rifle used by Al Pacino in movie Heat?

Michael Mann movies always have great guns.

He used and FNC which was made after the FN-CAL. I got to handle a CAL once, they were nice rifles. I think that they were a little pricey for the military market at the time.

The CAL was not popular and was discontinued before the 80's. It was a market flop and was replaced by the FNC, which was popular enough to get photographed and therefore, prohibited.

Yup, the semi-auto version is restricted due to barrel length. And those would be $5000 minimum rifles for the maybe 20-30 guys that would buy one.

Awesome! Any idea on where it is now? And I don’t suppose you have a rough idea on how many are in the country?

Welp, time to re-watch heat. The first DVD I ever bought when the format was released. The lull-between action scenes makes the action scenes so much more intense, along with a perfect soundtrack for it.
