I Am No Longer 17Mach2 Owner

Over the years, I have often thought about .17 CF of some sort or another; tiny bullets, small casings make them unappealing to reload for me. I to found the .223 a bit more than I needed to carry around for ground-hogs (have an AR for a range toy), and was never impressed with the .22 mag. 17 HMR is a perfect fit for me and my current wants; impressively accurate too!

17 HMR for me too! Wicked little cartridge. I use a CZ Canadian and an American.

Id like to build a 20tac. Being from ontario crows and coyotes are the most common vermin. I consider the 17 mach2 to light for targeting coyotes. Ive been playing with a 223 alot more recently. It may see the fields tomorow afternoon if a tom gets dropped in the am
My 20 Tac is my go to coyote rifle. It is great for ground squirrels at 300+ ,yards as well, but it heats up too quickly for high volume shooting.

I buck the trend. Picked up the new savage A17M2. Wow. I cannot wait for the May long weekend in the gopher fields. Hoping for a "300" day.
I also have a Hmr but I can put that M2 round anywhere in 125 metres---my fav for 14 years now

It's been many years since I have had a 300 day. I had many growing up in Saskatchewan, but lately a 100 day is great day.

I remember shooting at a couple of horse farms and cattle ranches that had never been shot at before. Starting the day day with 3 bricks and having to go back into town to get more. My hit percentage at that time was in the high 90% range.
One 10,000+ acre farm that bought my ammo for me if I gave them the receipts ended up reimbursing me for 900$ish at the end of the summer. Good times.

Ontario is not a target rich environment. The 20tac seems about perfect for my wants. Fast flat to 250 yards and loaded with bullets that virtually eliminate ricochets. The 20s also offer more weight than the 17s which is a plus for coyotes

How do you like the savage auto? Cant say im really a fan of their rifle styling but if its a solid platform i may look into one. Can never have too many squirrel rifles

Agreed. I'd be very interested in even 75 yard accuracy reports.

Also interested in your 20tac build details brybenn, and what kind of accuracy you're getting. I picked-up a new Tikka Varmint in 204 late last season so no immediate plans...but it's on the radar.

When I can go out again on a nice day I can do a hornady/elay/cci test and we will know what works best for it and what I can do. This is from sighting in laying in a snowy field at the farm at the end of March. Those patches are 1" wide I think so that's a 1.25-1 1/2" group I believe. I forgot the crazy target box there.
