After hunting on Saturday, I went to grab my Rifle, a Sako 75 finnlight 300WSM, and the barrel turns in my hand. The barrel was unscrewed about 1/4 of a turn. I was planning to get a gunsmith headspace and locktite the barrel down and notify sako. Is there anything else I can do? Any advice would be apprieciated?
Thanks
Francis

Take it out of the stock to see if there are any index marks on the underside of the action and barrel. There may just be a line very faintly. If there is, having a gunsmith lining them up should put it to factory headspacing. Tell the gunsmith about the event if you get no satisfaction from Stoeger and he or she will take care of you.

I find Stoeger Canada good to deal with. I'd get them to pay for the repairs, and run it thru warranty.

wow... i was just looking at some Sakos in a catalogue, so much for that.
i realise that the odds of me getting a QC failure like this are probably 1,000,000:1 but still...

i second sending it in to stoeger for warranty work before having a gunsmith so much as touch it. even if the gunsmith fixes it, if there is some other problem with the rifle later on down the road (or it comes loose again) having had gunsmithing done on it may end up voiding the warranty.

Just a thought...did you fire the rifle last time you had it out? If so did the bolt function normally, or stiff?

P.S. to CanAm: I would rather have 4 cadillacs in my driveway as opposed to 10 Yugos or Lattas.

But how about 5 caddies and 20 Lada's. Use the Caddies for showing off and the Lada's for hauling and multiple trips. They'll still get you there and are proven reliable. They are also easier and cheaper to fix. The Caddies are a bad analogy cause Caddies aren't that great. Lets say Mercedes.
I am not saying trade the C17's in for 76's. Just get the most for you money. The IL76 has an exceptional record in service. Even when they have had problems, it is after decades of poor maintenance and neglect.

Francis,
Did you buy it new? Or was it a Gunshow special, or other special where Gomer could have got at it before you?

Ever try getting parts for a Lada? I just remember when the first Ily came to our base. It leaked so bad we made it park at the other end of the apron, and put drip pans under it. But that reverts back to maintenance doesn't it. Next c-17 should be due anytime now, and our venerable herc fleet is being upgraded and increased. Whatever it takes Heavy Lift Inc. is costing us a small fortune, and it is just a matter of time until they have an accident. They took the fence down with their landing gear on take off and claimed they hadn't noticed, before that around Christmas years ago they ran out of runway and burried an antonov....the list could go on and on. Anyway got to stop before we bet slapped for jacking this thread.
p.s. Old base CO didn't want C17's either...they wont fit in 10 hanger!

Sako

But ten new 76's would look better still ;)

Never heard of 76's.

In the 10 years I have had my model 75 SS 300WM and same with my hunting buddy, never any problems what so ever. Plus my barrel was removed, custom fluted , teflon coatd flutes and polished ribs.

Same with the 243 I bought in a Sako m75SS-great rifle.

Take your rifle to a good gunsmith and have them tighten it up. Let your dealer know what happend, but should be good after the fix.

Kodiac,
Yes, I fired the rifle once during the hunt. It was a successfull hunt and the rifle did close a little tight, but they usually are while using my reloads.
I'' call Stoeger Canada tommorow to see what they can do for me.
Norm,
Yes, I bought the gun new a couple of years ago after the barrel blow up fiasco.
Thanks for the replies.

He is very helpful. I am sure he will ship your gun back to Finland on their own expense.
