Replacing an AR15 telescoping stock by a fixed stock

I need to replace a telescoping ar15 stock by a fixed stock. This is not on an ar15 rifle, so the buffer tube is just there to allow the existing stock to slide and lock. There is no spring or follower. It’s a commercial tube.

I’d like to get the magpul fixed carbine stock. My question is do I just mount the stock on the existing buffer tube or do I need to change the tube when going to a fixed stock ?
 
I went to a Magpul PRS fixed stock on my Ruger Precision and I had to swap out the buffer tube to an A2 rifle length so it would be compatible with the Magpul

No need to change the tube. Slide the telestock off, slide the fixed carbine stock on, and tighten one bolt. Super easy, solid and comfy.
 
You should be able just to add a the fixed carbine stock without needing to change out your buffer tube. You can always add a PRS extended butt-pad to get a longer length of pull if you need.

A commercial-spec tube is of slightly larger diameter than a military-spec tube, and many of the aftermarket stocks are sized for the latter.

Carbine tubes have that rib on the bottom and the stock has to have a slot there.

Also, there are some 308 tubes that are about an inch longer and might not work with all stocks if they assume normal lengths.
