Firearms reform rumored release this week.

As the Rob Arms importer we have not been consulted about numbers imported. I do not believe that any industry members have been consulted, so all the estimates on non restricted firearms can only be wild estimates. The lower the Government puts the numbers the less it will cost them and the better the compliance rate will appear!

Mr H. Is there a federation of sporting goods retailers such as yourself for the purpose of organizing and collecting accurate data to combat the disinformation from biased media outlets and political groups?

My guess....

1 AR15 and variant (mandatory)
2 AR10 and variant
3 Tavor 21 / X95
4 Type 97
5 Mini 14
6 M14 and variant
7 Type 81
8 CZ 858 /CSA
9 SA classic
10 RA XCR
11 SKS

Anything used in any mass shooting in Canada will be banned. Anything used by ANY military will be viewed as a "assault rifle" and banned.

Time will tell

Folks.... let’s be smart with what we post on here. Stop making guesses of what may or may not be banned. If you think there are not others looking at the forum for ideas working for this monkey you are sadly mistaken, stop putting other models and firearms in their heads. Stop making comments suggesting what may be taken.

I found this on the cbc website; potential list according to a document obtained by Radio-Canada:

M16, M4, AR-10 and AR-15 rifles. Those styles were used in the Sandy Hook, New Zealand, Las Vegas and Orlando mass shootings. There are an estimated 83,572 in Canada.
Ruger Mini-14s, the type of firearm used in the École Polytechnique shooting. There are an estimated 16,859 in Canada.
Swiss Arms Classic Green carbines. There are an estimated 1,342 in Canada.
M14 rifles, used in the Moncton shooting. There are an estimated 5,229 in Canada.
Vz. 58 semi-automatic rifles, used in the Quebec City mosque shooting. There are an estimated 11,593 in Canada.
CZ Scorpion EVO 3 carbines. There are an estimated 1,813 in Canada.
Beretta CX4 Storm carbines, the type of firearm used in the Dawson College shooting. There are an estimated 1,513 in Canada.
Sig Sauer MCX and Sig MPX carbines and pistols. There are an estimated 1,000 in Canada.
Robinson Arms XCR rifles. There are an estimated 1,834 in Canada.

No, but Customs and Global Affairs will have import applications.

I don't understand why they'd specifically call out the M16 since, you know, it's already prohibited. Why not call out the AK/AKM platforms? As expected, this just seems like a cobbled together list of the scariest names they could find when they googled "baby killing, kitten massacring assault weapons".

They're dumb, but not that stupid. They know whats out there, they can simply browse any retailer website or even the EE here.

The mini 14 being a well known point in the poly shooting, why did it take decades for someone to finally put it on the ban list? That is odd to me.

To me these numbers seem way to low

If that's their approach, will they also ban every vehicle involved in a hit and run? Because.. public safety?!

Your party is about to push through an ill-advised Order In Counsel (OIC).
No only does this OIC circumvent the traditional debate in house of commons the end result will not have any effect on the safety of the citizens of Canada.

Within our boarders we seen an increase in gun violence. These guns time and time again have been traced back to smuggling from the US. This OIC does nothing to address that.

We all see on the news the mass shootings in the US and want to ensure that doesn't happen here. A key point that gets continuously overlooked when people compare the US semi-automatic rifles (including the AR-15) to Canadian semi-automatic rifles is that after the tragedy at Ecole Polytechnique we restricted ALL rifle magazines to 5 rounds. There is no way to "Spray Bullets" or go on an "Mass Shooting" like they do in America.

There is no empirical data to support why these specific firearms should be removed from legal owners.

I fear that your party has been hearing from constituents that they are scared. You need to show that you are doing something. Instead of doing the hard things that will actually make a difference (dedicating resources at the border, enforcing existing laws) you are choosing the easy path to what looks good today in the media.

In the end you will spend hundreds of millions of dollars confiscating personal property, make paper criminals out of otherwise extremely law abiding citizens and not make the country any safer.

Just in closing, more Canadians drown in hot tubs in one year than were killed by an AR-15 in all years combined. You are focusing your efforts on the wrong things.

Not to be a ####, but for credibility:

Unlike in the United States, every gun owner is licensed, continuosly verified as eligible to own firearms, and is trained in the legal and safe operation of firearms.

There is no empirical data to support why these specific firearms should be removed from legal owners.

So what your saying is because the majority of rifles that will be banned take AR pattern mags then AK pattern mag rifles should be banned too then!?!?!
Way to throw others under the bus now
Ak and AKM rifles are already banned just so ya know
