In response to the ugly pistol comment the Pardini line of Practical shooting pistol are based on the 1911 . If you revist the webpage, click english (Union Jack), weapons, then practical and you will see a host of 1911 based pistols that on feature by feature are a great deal. These are used my european IPSC shooters.

STI hands down, and with a Trojan you can stick the other $300 into ammo :)

Or a Spartan and put $700 into ammo, more mags, etc. etc.

You talk about "local service"... STI actually has the best of all these. STI is imported by a dedicated shooter who has the parts (Sean at Freedom Ventures), and sold by dealers such as me, a dedicated shooter and pistolsmith specializing in 1911's...

Well, that makes an excellent point... ;) ;)

Kimber, STI, Dlask, Colt, S&W

I have had many 1911's over the last 23 years, Colts, Remington Rand, Grizzly, Detonics, AMT, STI, Kimber, and they all have good points and some have bad points. I even had a Llama 1911 style in 9mm, piece of junk that was, as was an Imbel in 45ACP. The best one I have shot so far by far is the Kimber Tactical Custom II and the Kimber Super Match II. After that it would be one that I used to own but sold, a Detonics Scoremaster in 45 ACP as well. The STI's are really good guns as well and are just as accurate as my Kimbers but the Kimbers are not fussy feeders, you can put anything un the mag almost and there is no problem. I even put in an empty case to show a friend and no problem. I personally find the STI's to be a little fussier, great guns when you get the right combination and as long as you shoot RN Hardball, no problem but I can't afford to just shoot factory ammo. This is just my observation, I'm sure other people have different stories. The final decision rests in your hands and of course your pocketbook.

Good luck in your purchase and BTW Gunnar is right regarding STI's, both Gunnar at Armco and Sean at Freedom Ventures are great guys and will bend over backwards to help you out and as I have mentioned STI's are great guns, I personally have 4 and am currently trying to talk Mrs Harley into letting me get a new Ranger II in .40 S&W.
