Question everyone should be asking the RCMP. Where is bill getting these numbers from for the amount of non restricted firearms in circulation? I thought it was illegal to maintain a registry unless you live in Quebec?

Its like someone breaking the law to accuse another of breaking the law. Last I checked a court case would get tossed for this.

I think we should as a community pen a letter to Kenney; can he draw up a sunset provision to counteract new federal law?
 
Calls, emails and any other form of words will do nothing. Is there any legal footing we have? That’s all that’s left. They aren’t going to do this and then listen or backtrack from here. We either need some massive campaign to prove how wasteful they are with Using tax money on this or take this to court somehow. Talking to them is a waste of breath and time.

It may be pointless but I wrote this:

Dear Prime Minister Trudeau,

I am writing you on the eve of one of your government’s worst mistakes in Canada.
I am talking about the impending firearms ban that has been reported in numerous news media.

Your government has repeatedly asked for studies and polls on the subject of gun violence in Canada. Every report including ones from our national police force, the RCMP, as well as numerous city and provincial police departments have unequivocally stated that legal firearms owners are not the problem. Your government has ignored one of the largest official petitions ever which leads me to believe our democratic process is dead in Canada. With the current COVID crisis, our country is in dire need for economic stimulation and financial recovery, not confiscation and bad blood.

Instead of focusing on uniting Canada and our people back to work, you have unilaterally decided to put a ban on certain firearms. This will affect numerous sport , recreational and sustenance shooters in our country with no effect on stopping or slowing down crime. Legal vetted gun owners are not the problem. This ban will also affect the small Canadian firearms businesses which are also struggling to overcome our current economic situation.

In one fell swoop, you are confiscating legal firearms owned by vetted gun owners and bought with after tax money; you will financially hurt many small businesses; you will further burden all Canadians with the implementation of any bans and the compensations and lawsuits that are sure to follow your directive. You will tie up our court system with frivolous paper crimes and challenges. All this for a gesture that will not positively affect but may actually worsen our crime rate.

You have spoken many times on transparency and evidence based decisions. All the statistics and information laid in front of you have indicated gun bans will not work. Yet, it seems, you have chosen to ignore this. Using the Nova Scotia mass murder as your example has backfired as the monster wasn’t a legal firearm owner and acquired some of his illegal firearms from another country, none, it seems was any kind of an “assault rifle”. Yet you punish us for his evil deeds. This is not democracy.

I may not be able to change your mind but I will say this. My fellow firearms owners of all political persuasions ( and there are many) will be watching you and your policies. By following through on this ill thought out decision, you and the Liberal party will make long time enemies of upstanding Canadians. Is this where the Liberal Party wishes to draw the battle line with its own people? We have been the backbone of this great country for hundreds of years. Please do not ignore our contributions. Please, fight crime and not legal firearms owners.

The CCFR is doing what they can: be grateful for what they have done, what they continue to do and what they are willing to do going forward.
Minority govt or not the CPC is limited in what it can do as the sitting govt refuses to re-open parliament.
The LPC is celebrating the pandemic: it could not have happened at a better time for them. It certainly is not something you, I or anyone else could have seen coming.

Ride the storm, wait for the actual details then collect your thoughts. The situation is (collectively) ugly & hurtful to us. You are not alone in this. Commit yourself to being a part of the solution going forward is all I can say.
