My daughter was given one, then handed it on to me when she left home.

First thing I did was take the abomination of a side mount scope off and put a peep site on it.

The idea of trying to sight through a scope without being able to have the cheek on the stock was ridiculous.

The only .30-30 lever gun that looks decent with a scope is a Marlin. Winchesters are for iron or peep sites...

If you guys are worried about how "pretty" a gun is you might as well just hang it on the wall and never go hunting with it.

+1 on the peep. I changed the front sight to a light gathering plastic rod that gives a bright red dot for the front sight.

A word of warning on a side mount scope or a "see thru" height mount scope. If you concentrate on an iron sight shot, the scope might be only a half inch from your head. Ouch!! See below.
