Any problems shooting steel BB shot through a Win. 120 Ranger with full choke? I have seen conflicting answers all over the place.

Yes.

Don't shoot steel shot out of a full choke.

You can have your choke opened up to modified which is the most common choke used for waterfowling.

On newer shotguns the tightest choke is marked "not for use with steel shot"; is it there for manufacturer insurance purposes or if pressure could actually damage the shotgun (and potentially injure the user) I don't know. But it's written on mine and that's good enough for me. If it was my gun I would either not use steel in it or get it opened up.

all correct. the other reason is that while some models marked full choke can handle steel very well, because in truth their likely improved modified, patterns with steel through full choke are often uneven and scattered. i've found even modified with steel ,for some of my clients is still too much choke, even for waterfowl over decoys. a lot of them are finding light modified and skeet II produce great patterns with 2,3,4 size steel shot.

Crappy pattern and possible damage to the barrel. Sometimes you can change full to improved modified that would work like full with steel shot and modified with lead (win-win choice). :shotgun:
