Squared size ( the measurment between his nose and tail combined with the measurment between his front paws and divided by two)
And skull size.(length of the skull without the lower jaw + the width of the skull at its widest point) skin and muscle etc off of course.

Pic would be better with your mug in it too but its not a deal breaker if its not.

Try to add as much info as you can as it will be put to a vote same as last time at the end of the spring bear season and the winner wins the internet for a day.

So last year was the first time I've ever bought a spring bear tag (didn't get out, bought it more as a means of funding conservation) anyways, I was also required to fill out a fall ebar harvest report even though I didn't buy a fall tag.

Does the Ontario Bear tag apply to both seasons?

This is similar to my plan for May and into June (if I do not connect earlier). No colour/phase ambitions for me, but the boars we find further north are often much larger.

I have been bringing my .308 and .375 (central AB) and deciding whether the .375 (QD rings + express sights) is reserved for any interesting tracking or is the primary rifle.

On the northern AB trips, I have enjoyed carrying and using the .375 as the primary.

Have not hunted spring for a few years. Have enough rugs, but do miss the meat. Seldom much out before May long, need to see things green up. Used mostly 120 gr bullet from a 25-06 & 165 from 308.

Had the day off work and got around to getting out. Shot this medium boar with a Ruger M77 tactical in 308 win with 165gr Nosler ballistic tips. Shot was around 125 yards, one in the chest and one rear end shot took off running after the first shot. Expired within 60 yards. Going to be some good eating!

I've been out twice so far since the season opened, once was mostly just an exploratory walk, and then an early morning sit over bait. Quiet so far, though.
Working from home because of the covid gives me a bit of flexibility, so the morning sit was two hours, and I was still logged into the office by quarter after eight!

Got this one two nights ago. 65 yards with my .303 Savage 1899. Well over 300 pounds. Will make a nice rug.

Things are starting to green up more in central and north-central Alberta. Saw a great boar on Saturday just before noon, casually feeding along a big timber tree line.

When I got into a good spot to glass, I could see: big head, small looking ears, notable facial crease, robust front lower legs and looked to be in the 6ft range.

Everything I was hoping to see at some point this season and ironically first black bear sighting of the year. Not much smaller than a grizz I saw the weekend before.

Unfortunately, there was no practical shot opportunity before he was gone. Heading back to that zone again this weekend, where the 375 Ruger will be the new primary.

Lets consider this guy a place holder bear until I can cross the rockies and find a better one.

My first Northern BC bear and big game animal. First solo big game animal.

Shot with a 270 win Sako A7 with 130 grain blue box (I know, I know)

Shot quartering away, bullet went through the heart and lungs and came out of the front leg.

I just got back from the bush with him, a bit of an adventure. Now to skinning and quartering.
