Would it be possible to rechamber a Tikka T3 in 7mm08 to 280 Remington? Since all T3s are built on the same action length, would it just require the mag to be switched to an '06 length one after the barrel has been rechambered, or would it require more extensive action work?

Thanks

you'd have to set the barrel back too far....can't be done....you'll run out of shank.....now a 280 Ackley Improved could be done.....

Why would you have to set the barrel back to go from a short action chamber to a long action?? Wouldn't it be just a matter of reaming it and adjusting the bolt stop to long action?

The 7-08 is much larger diameter at the shoulder than the 280....you'd have to almost remove the complete chamber....I had a guy ask me to rechamber his 243 to 6mm Rem a couple weeks ago...same story...he didn't believe it until I showed him the case drawings...can't be done.
Now, like I mentioned , a 280 Ackley could be done...or a 284 Win....or a 7SAUM/WSM or any of the belted 7mms...these are larger at the shoulder than the standard 7-08 case the reamer will "clean up" a 7-08 chamber.

So, if it was rechambered to AI, (which makes more sense anyway), how much work to move the bolt stop in the T3 to a long action?

I have a Springfield 02/ parkerhale action that was built with a 7mm-08 heavy barrel. I wasn't happy with the performance of the cartridge so I had K.S. Arms in Edmonton rechamber the barrel into a .280 Rem.. The rifle is a tack driver. It CAN be done my rifle is proof!

If...you have a long enough shank to remove the 7-08 chamber and still have a shoulder....the Tikka factory sporter barrel won't allow yu to do this.

The 284 would be a #####in conversion. There's enough length in the mag to seat heavy bullets out long. Just make sure the throat is long enough to accommodate it

I was thinking that myself but I wonder which magazine would work with the 284 case?......maybe a Short Mag magazine?...the short mags are a bit larger diameter than the 284 but they might work....or maybe the 7-08 mag would work...?...you never know until you try.

CGN Rule #283: Don't argue with Rembo when it comes to this stuff.....he truly does know what he's talking about :D
