I just bought a Baby Browning .25 acp mouse gun. I'm going to put it on my ATC for widerness defense

Anyone have any experience, tips, anecdotes or jokes about this little pistol?

They're elegantly designed pistols, but not at all adequate for wilderness use. Having spent many years in the U.S. Pacific Northwest, I would suggest you consider nothing smaller than .357 Magnum in a 6" barrel. In fact, if you're considering shooting for meat, get a rifle. Park rangers carry 12-gauge shotguns with slugs for bears.

You mean that my Baby Browning .25 ACP won't have the same stopping power as my normal carry revolver in .454 Casull?:confused::D

I am sure your suggestion of including it on your ATC is a joke . But , let's not push the ATC for Wilderness Defence application people with frivolous additions or applications. They may just say NO to all the applications that are below a .500 S&W.

tough crowd today... Check with Scott or Kelly at DVC Ventures in PoCo (Smokinggunfx here...a dealer) I bet he has some .25 ammo.

The .25 Browning Baby might be good for Protection against RABID BATS and DEER MOUSE with HANTAVIRUS. I do have concerns about mag capacity for such an important piece of wilderness protection . What if you need follow up shots when they attack? Mind you with your regular firearm even a near miss with the .454 Casull will do the trick on the bat , deer mouse ,cabin or tent . The wilderness can be a dangerous place.

If you can find any, think .25 ACP Silvertips. You may find that you won't be allowed to carry a prohibited firearm though.

Any ideas on a store with .25 ACP Silvertips?

My ATC has 2x12(6) prohibs on it. But obviously I won't try to add this mouse gun to it.

I just bought this because it is such a beautiful example of John Brownings creative genius and I've always wanted one.

Is it true that their recoil springs are so stiff that they need a 2 handed grip to cycle properly?

Where's RichardOldfield when you need him?

I have ladies shoot mine all the time. They cycle fine with a one hand grip, and the slides are not that difficult to operate.

I was referring to having to shoot the little guys with a two handed grip to prevent cycling/feed problems due to the relatively strong recoil springs causing limp wrist feed stoppages.

Redleg, thanks for the input, sounds like it'll be OK with a one handed grip.

I have some 35 grain Speer Gold Dot HP bullets for my Baby Browning , haven't loaded any yet though. I also got 50 gr FMJ's for $10/1000 from the USA a few years ago before they stopped shipments to Canada, even after shipping they only cost about $50 for the 2000 bullets. I guess I should start shoot mine a lot more.
Browning has a manual online for the Baby as well: http://media.browning.com/pdf/om/25auto_s.pdf

I've been enjoying mine for several years now and picked up an Astra from another CGNer last year, which is a bit of a Baby Browning copycat.

It was originally purchased from H.Y. Maranda Co. in Montréal on August 10, 1954 by a Lachine police officer for personal protection. He paid $47.50 for the gun and $3.20 for a box of ammo. I have the original paperwork with it.

It is also .25 ACP and disassembles in roughly the same fashion as the Browning, minus the slide locking lever on the Astra. When the local shop gets .25 ACP I tend to buy what I can get at the time. The .25 is a great little plinker. Now, the question remains, do I scope it or not!;)

For anyone who is on the lookout for a mouse gun, strangeday has two for sale in the handgun exchange forum at $225.00 each. They look to be in great condition.

I took the Baby out to the range and fired off a box of AE 50 gr FMJ's. I set the target up at 5m as this is a practical range for this type of pistol.

Here is the first group of 5 rounds, fired two handed, rapid fire, aimed.

The little pistol is easy to control, even with rapid fire. I find the trigger is heavy but that is probably a good thing in a pocket pistol. I had one failure to feed, shooting one handed, rapid fire. probably me limp wristing it. The spent case ejected but the last round in the magazine hung up going into the chamber.

I found that I got the best groups by not using the sights and rather pointing it with both eyes open and sighting down the grooved top of the slide.

I had a few scrapes on the web of my hand from the slide, nothing serious. It ejects the tiny little .25 ACP cases at least 30 feet to the right. I recovered only 22 of the 50.

Over all an impressive little mousegun, perfectly suited for it's objective. Here are some pics.
