New Trudeau Blair rules on shotguns

And it doesn't say anything about measuring it somewhere else. I'll take the legal opinion of a lawyer who specializes in firearms law over yours every day. The courts, especially our largely anti gun Liberal appointed judges, will interpret the language of the OIC as they see fit. That is unlikely to benefit gun owners.

The only way out is a clarifying amendment to the OIC. We'll see how that goes.

Then you best dump those new shotguns prohibs fast as the lawyer says before they are shown on the list
If any are vintage and quality I could use some more
Take care

The bore of a shotgun is not the largest diameter of the inside of a choke tube recess.

The bore of a shotgun starts at the smallest internal diameter in front of the end of the chamber, where the forcing cone tapers from the chamber diameter to the bore diameter. The bore continues on until it encounters the choke area where the bore ends and the choke takes over.

The standard bore diameter for a 12 gauge is .729. This may vary slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer and manufacturing tolerances. I have measured some 12 gauge bores as large as .733".

20 mm is .788". No 12 gauge bores come close to that figure.

I don't understand why anyone would measure the inside of a choke tube recess to determine bore diameter, it is not the bore of the shotgun.

Well said

In speaking with the rcmp yesterday they dont have any frt for 8ga guns but assured me theyd be non restricted as they have been notified that no shotgun has recently become prohibited. Take that as you will. While searching thru the frt 10ga shotguns are still classed as non restricted.
Therefor if caught regardless of muzzle diameter when the police call to check the frt they will find they have not been prohibited
If im caught while turkey hunting today or any other day ill update with my court date. Exhibit a will be my berettas barrel as marked and proofed as 18.6 bore

How could they not have any FaRTed 8ga guns? They aren't common but are certainly far from being unheard of. There are larger ones as well.

These are simple facts... facts that have existed for over a hundred years.

Can you post a law that says this isn't correct?

I am sure the idiots who made this legislation will soon clarify it for the idiots who think 12 gauge shotguns are banned. I would bet dollars to donuts 10 gauge hunting shotguns will also not be banned.

Measure the bore diameter on a Mossberg 835, it might surprise you. It's still under 20mm, but it is close.

I don't think the list was complete and reading the OIC it states they have no provisions for a BB or GF.

Nova Scotia happened and they went with what they had because radicalised gun grabbers wanted the Government to strike while the iron was hot and the wounds still bleeding.

My take on it.

Man, if these shotgun owners stood in solidarity with us and fought the ban as hard as they fight other firearm owners to keep their shotguns we would have had this OIC overturned by May 2.......

If anyone feels they need to hand in a Browning 725 sporting with 30" or 32" barrels, I will pay more than the Gov't is offering. :)

The main thing is that the law does not specify how a barrel bore is to be measured. That point is key. Have we not seen the RCMP lab push the boundaries in the past, to come up with a more favourable interpretation or outcome? Of course we have! Blair's tweet that has no legal value, none whatsoever. Who's to say that in 5, 10 or 15 years from now this lack of clarity will not be exploited by the RCMP and lead to another round of firearms grab? This might have to be tested in the courts one day. Until there is a ruling and precedence, it's all speculation but one thing is certain per the OIC, 20 mm and more equals banned...

I really do not understand why many think that this lack of clarity cannot be misused in the future. Do you trust the RCMP lab and upper management? I certainly don't!

Edit:
I am not worried about my shotgun, but recognize that the door is open for abuse later Unfortunately, this is not beneath the Liberals and the RCMP. Time will tell.

I have an older 10 gauge with fixed chokes. A few years back I agreed to the gunsmith opening up the chokes.
Skeet #1 or 2 in the RH barrel. Its damn close at 19.86mm. The left barrel is Imp/Mod.
I was very worried for a bit.

Edit: here is the strange dicotomy. It was made about 1890 and suddenly in 2020 it's on the very edge of too dangerous for the Canadian public. I am certain we have some upset 8 gauge owners.
Sorry if I appear too tiresome on this very subject.

In speaking with the rcmp yesterday ........ as they have been notified that no shotgun has recently become prohibited.

Call them back and ask them to give you that in writing. The owners of the Utas XTR-12 listed in the new law on page 32 (z.886) Utas XTR-12 will be very happy to hear the document the government posted as law will not be banning their shotty based on a phone conversation.

The OIC will never be overturned. It will be clarified and sadly, even more guns will soon be added due to all the “chat” going on about the variants the government missed. I could see shotguns like the Derya being added due to the AR stylings even (especially now that there is a fkn drum magazine for them)..but normal hunting and sporting 12 and 10 ga guns will be left alone. Any wishing beyond this is just that...
