Hey Everybody. I Recently bought my First M1 Garand, Shortly Followed by a parts kit second and lone receiver third, Needless to say im quite enamored

I am a Weapon Technician for the army, So i know my way around a rifle or two. I Would like to start building M1 Garands as a hobby and im looking if any of you guys have any tips to share on what tools to buy, (Barrel Reamers etc) and where to source them. Same goes for parts!

Hopefully this is the correct place to ask this! and if you guys have any tips or knowledge to impart onto me it would be willingly received!

Thanks all.

Brownell's would be a start. Then see what tools everyone else has to purchase
Parts are mostly from America. When you find a parts deal buy lots
Building a parts inventory is a slow process. Find a few receivers just to have.

Just be prepared for customs delays with Brownell's. I've heard $100 or $500 is the per order limit for Canada, not sure.

My $50 springs and extractor is still sitting with US Customs. Since April/21. No movement. I'm sure it'll come, but others have confirmed this delay.

Best of luck with your build!

your late to the game Garands and parts have not been made probably since the 70's then they were given to countries all over parts have really started to dry up. 15-20 years ago you could get complete garands for $149-250 each cheaper if you bough a few

its not impossible but will take you time and money last one i built cost me 1600.00 once i had all the parts (usgi NOS for most) about 2 years ago

Receivers are the cheap part. Then add $1500 worth of parts to complete a rifle. You also need correct tooling incl a receiver wrench, barrel vise, barrel alignment fixtures, finishing reamer if using a new barrel, and headspace gauges. Knowledge is important. The best reference there is is Kuhnhausen's Shop manual on the Garand and M14. "The M1 Garand Complete Assembly Guide" by Kulek is also helpful.

There's more to this than just twisting a barrel and receiver together then adding parts. Fitting in critical areas is important for correct functionality and accuracy.

Garand parts and tools

I used to get parts from gunpartscorp to fix my Garand. Marstar has some Garands parts and they are in Canada.

You can make some tools too. I made a bolt assembly/disassembly tool using a quick clamp and a head from a 30-06 case. Works like a charm.

Back in my younger days (1980-90), I use to buy Garands for ~$250. It would take a while to sell one on this site. Come to think of it, I had four in my gun safe once.

a dealer who is not a site sponsor has complete kits minus the receiver for 1000$ US with used barrell and stock or 1200$ US with new barrell and stock.even with the exchange that's as cheap as it gets.only one shipping charge as opposed to multiple charges depending where you get your parts.probably the best way to go.

I Wish they had that Kit with a 308. But im sure i could resell the Barrel. Thanks!

TEC has only one 308 barrel in stock no 3006 barrels
Maybe other people have Garand and M1 Carbine barrels
Then you need the list of people who know how to barrel up the receivers with the gas cylinder/bolt

Im looking into buying the tools myself. id like to buy them second hand but. ill buy it from the USA. I Work on guns for a living so the concept of barreling it up and timing the sights is not a hard one to understand.
