Peter MacKay has clarified his intentions, as if today’s email:

As Canadian communities face an increase in violent crimes, the Trudeau Liberals are reverting to their failed playbook of demonizing law-abiding firearms owners.

Canadians from large urban centers to remote and rural communities are fed up with Trudeau’s inaction and want to see meaningful steps taken to keep their families safe. Justin Trudeau will penalize law-abiding and responsible firearms owners as a cover for his own inaction. I will not.

I want to address Justin Trudeau’s recent announcement, which will have significant ramifications for Canada's law-abiding firearms community.

To be clear - I will undo the changes made by Order in Council and repeal Bill C-71.

Recently, Trudeau implemented provisions of Bill C-71, passed by the previous Liberal government with the support of the NDP. This bill included a firearm ban that includes many common firearms owned and safely used by Canadian hunters, sports shooters and collectors.

While the bill penalizes Canadians who already go to great lengths to follow the law, the new measures do nothing to address problems caused by those who possess guns illegally or who smuggle them across the border.

As you know, Canada has a licensing system that includes an intensive screening process, rigorous training, and daily background checks. Canadian firearms owners are diligent about following the rules because safety is hardwired into the culture of lawful firearms ownership in this country.

I have always stood with our lawful Canadian firearms community who along with all Canadians, share a commitment to public safety. As a senior minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, I proudly supported the repeal of the ineffective and expensive long-gun registry in 2011.

I will stand once again, this time as Prime Minister, to bring forward legislation to repeal Bill C-71 and replace it with a law that targets violent crime that is prevalent in rural communities and urban centres, illegal guns, organized crime and smugglers. This is what will make Canadians safer.

Canadians are searching for solutions, not Liberal talking points that make headlines.

So, here are just a few of the steps a MacKay Conservative government will take to tackle serious violent crime and make our streets safer for everybody:

Immediately introduce measures to crack down on illegal firearms.
Provide for mandatory minimum penalties for possession and end the revolving door for repeat offenders.
Take the $600 million the Trudeau government proposes to spend on a wasteful gun buyback program and invest that money with frontline policing and Canada Border Services to go after the illegal guns that pose a real threat to Canadians.
Take decisive action to combat organized crime, which operates in cities, and more recently rural communities across Canada.
Toughen measures to deter and catch smuggling by seizing vehicles at the border where illegal guns are found.
I will always stand with the lawful firearms community in Canada and all Canadians to fight the real criminals who put our communities at risk.

Sincerely,

Hon. Peter MacKay

So, I believe all four candidates have indicated they would repeal the nonsensical OIC. I’m a little less clear on Sloan’s intentions, as he also condemned the ban, but for a repeal it would be after a review of the Firearm Act, but it still looks good for lawful owners:

“ I will conduct a complete review of the Firearms Act and related regulations to safeguard the right of firearms owners to their private property. Legislation that has not proven to be beneficial to public safety should be repealed.”

Well this clears things up. It will be an interesting race.

Leslyn is my choice. She has 3 degrees, 1 phd and 1 master, obviously a super smart lady. She being a lawyer will also destroy Assturd in debates. Her weakness imo is not fluent in French.
O Toole is my 2nd choice but his stance on defunding CBC will backfire hard. Like it or not, we need media to be on our side. Scheer got destroyed last fall during election by the medias.

Leslyin coming from immigrants parents and a minority will also win the swing voters in Toronto and Montreal imo.
The Turd also cant play the ###ist and racist card on her.

My sister and bro inlaw live in the GTA they were happy that Rona Ambrose was not running. They are Lieberals through and through. One of them in turds financially propped up media. Libtards fear a woman running the conservatives. They cannot use their normal tactics. Also you need the GTA to win. Erin and Mackay have too much old party and are easy to run down via media. We need a woman to dispell the old conservative ideology. The last time she ran, she stepped up halfway through an election after Jerry Bance who was running in that riding was caught urinating in a mug or something like that. What do i know I am just a guy from Ontario who lives in an area that almost always elects blue.

All great points. Too bad she is not fluent in French that would of helped immensely get her votes in Quebec. Perhaps she's doing a crash course as I write!

She said in interview she has been taking French course :D I bet her French will be better than Mackay's.

It’s certainly all about drawing in Liberal voters, especially in the GTA. In most of the rest of Canada, the Conservative party could run a ceramic garden gnome as a candidate and still win the seat.

^^^^

Love it!!! May "borrow" that for some Liberals I live close to - if only to make 'em realize how dumb they are for not recognizing what the rest of the Country figured out.

O.N.G.

I have been saying that between O'Tool and Dr. Lewis, we have an unusual situation where there are actually 2 strong Conservative candidates running for the party leadership.

Our downfall will be in dividing the Conservative party along leadership lines, when what is needed to start turning the big ship back to some semblance of sanity is a strong and UNITED leadership team.

Whoever wins the leadership vote, we need Erin O'Tool's pragmatic approach, military service and experience, and straight to the point thinking; in combination with Dr. Leslyn Lewis' education, commitment to Conservative issues and ability to think clearly, debate and communicate ideas.

There is no single leader who is going to lead us out of this mess. No one person is going to break the spell of Justin Trudeau's cult of personality.

We need a team of Leaders to lead this nation and I think we have the beginnings of that right now, but we have to be united in our purpose and clear in our objective.

We have to go ALL IN...

Leslyn Lewis have two possible destiny, not being voted CPC leader or becoming Canada Prime Minister. Period.

Agreed, she is the only shot at not doing the same old to get boy wonder out.Only one who can steal some immigrant and especially female voters. The more the media go after her the more females she will get that why media wont even interview her

If you really want to make a difference.
During your next PROVINCIAL election. Vote for your provinces separation party.
If the provinces don't leave Canada. The Socialist republic of Montreal will continue to rule over you and demand to force you to follow their laws.
