It's a cheap upgrade, I guess just for look and saving the crown ....
Now should be available at your local dealers .... yes in Canada ....
Also just notice 1022 ext. mag release available at your local dealer too ...lol...

There's a cut out for the front sight right? Mine is also scopped (iron sights removed) always figured it would look odd...

btw how long is the muzzle brake? I'm guessing about half of it hangs out of the barrel?

Yes, that's correct. Just install it upside down.

It's 3.5" long, about 1.5" on the barrel.

"...Eagle International presents the Remington Model 597 Slipover Muzzle Brake for the 22 LR! This easy to install muzzle brake has been designed to eliminate gunsmithing! This design uses exiting barrel gases to neutralize recoil and dampen muzzle rise. All steel construction provides durability and longetivity that we all demand for our accessories..."

"...neutralize recoil and dampen muzzle rise..."

...I wonder if they managed to write that with a straight face?

I agree though, if you're likely to be using your 597 in an environment where the crown is going to be subjected to bumps and grinds (walking through the bush or whatever), this could be cheap insurance. That's not the case for me ...so I think that I'll spend the $25 on ammunition instead.

;)

How did you get your rear sight off? I've taken out all of the screws, but the thing won't budge and I don't want to scratch the surface.

I removed the sights of my 597 when I installed a scope, don't remember it being difficult...the rear sights is held in place by 2 screws (might need to move the sight down to see/remove the second screw) if you removed them just pull the sight (up) and that should do it.
